The asus mac address will usually be somewhere on the router. The 6 digits are the last 6 digits of the same mac

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

Many thanks. Also thanks for the tip about the modem. Am prepared for this, but figured it would be worth a try. No point spending money if I don't have to

Currently working via double NAT as have plugged Sky Q Hub into the Asus router. If the modem doesn't work I'll put it back to double NAT and order a new modem.

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

Now working perfectly and have completely removed the Sky Q hub. Glad I didn't buy a modem now. Thanks for your help. Just ran a quick speed test - getting the same 65 Meg i was before the change.

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

I've setup a ubiquiti edge max router nothing fancy or flash all I needed was to setup on eth0 as the wan port and in DHCPv6 settings enable DHCPv6 PD and set the prefix to /56 saved it and voila no faffing with usernames or passwords and it's running like a train! Even with 2 access points and 2 ubiquiti cameras recording 24/7 on the network I've just done a speed test and I'll add the results! It's a bit of a rough setup for now but I just needed it working and it's been in sync for over 34 days now not 1 drop

 here's a speed test I've just done bare in mind 2 cameras constantly recording as well;

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

My Nest Wifi arrived today. Turned IPv6 on, plugged it in to the ONT, no dice.

Any thoughts anyone?

cheers

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

Sorry to jump on the thread. Bought the same router TP Link Archer AC1900 C80 for use with FTTP.

I've followed all the steps and it just doesn't seem to want to connect. Did you have to wait long for it to authenticate?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Are you authenticating thru dhcp option 61 client identifier or dhcpv6 prefix delegation

Can you post the tp set up screen, wan settings and lan settings screen

Reading thru the thread indicates the router might not be compatible with dhcp option 61

The correct process to enable dhcpv6 prefix delegation is

Select the WAN interface section of router GUI, then select dual-stack option WAN interface for IPv4 & IPv6, for the address select DHCPv6 (dynamic option not static), enable prefix delegation (PD) on WAN and then select SLACC for IPv6 creation method on LAN interface

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

I've rebooted the ONT triple checked settings and it's suddenly decided to start working.

Thanks for the quick replies and help in getting sorted.

Any idea if you can use a custom DNS with Sky through the TP-link router? I've searched online but can't find anything conclusive.

Thanks

Usually all 3rd party routers allow 3rd party dns cloudflare, google etc.  Usually involves unticking a box on use default dns and entering the alternative settings (terminology may be different between routers)

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

I changed the DNS on the router yes and everything still seemed to work well. No idea if sky have any way of changing it again at their end though. Need to do some more tests.

Highly recommend getting a third party router though. The difference is night and day with WiFi, ping, and overall stability.

Re: Using third party router with Sky FTTP

Have been using the router for a few weeks new and everything has been great but have had a few issues.

Has anybody else had trouble loading certain apps on their phones at all? Amazon, shopping apps and some others either take forever to load or don't load at all!! Tried on numerous devices, works perfect as soon as WiFi is switched off and it's on mobile data.
