COMPATIBLE DVD player.

Hi all. My old DVD player doesn't play sound through Glass, which I believe is because it's not compatible with Dolby Atmos.

Any suggestions for a replacement?

@SinclairBetamax

Any current Blu-ray player should be suitable : UHD Blu-ray if you want the widest disk compatibility.

@SinclairBetamax doubt it is anything to do with Dolby Atmos but if you haven't tried there is an option in settings to imorove connectivity for older HDMI devices find thst and see if it helps.

Re: COMPATIBLE DVD player.

Thanks for the responses. Just before I go and put my hand in my pocket for a new player, is there anything I should know about the hdmi lead ? I see another user has suggested that Glass prefers a 2.1 spec ?

Not really sure what I'm talking about, so any help would be useful.

@SinclairBetamax HDMI cables carry a digital signal so the only important factor is whether the cable can cope with the bandwidth it will carry.

Given disc players can only output less than 16Gb/s even when out putting UHD resolution you do not need a cable rated at 48Gb/s which is the HDMI 2.1a requirement. Glass does have ports rated at HDMI 2.1 but in practice is limited to accepting 2160p at 50Hz which tops out around 12Gb/s so cables rated as premium high speed should be ample. You do not need to pay a more for Ultra High Speed cables which will work of course but they are no better than the cheaper variety.

See https://www.hdmi.org/resource/cables for more from the outfit that defines and licences the standards.

@SinclairBetamaxThis is only a guess, it will not be the cable, but it could be the age of your existing player if it is from about 2002 and HDMI 1.0 (if you still have the instructions it may tell you) it did not support the full range of audio formats. Although I doubt if this is the problem if it worked with your previous TV.

Post the exact make and model someone may have one and be able to assist.

As others have posted any current DVD player should work with Glass.

Re: COMPATIBLE DVD player.

Thank you sky community. The old player was very old so not surprised when it wasn't fully working with Glass. I will purchase new player and lead and let you know.

Thanks for your advice.
