Band width on router needs adjusting to connect printer

Bought Epson printer which will not connect to iPhone or iPad. Contacted Epson and told: "The router is running a dual band. The printer is 2.4 ghz not 5ghz. The channel of the network needs to be 1,6 or 11. Once the printer is connected I then have to get the 5ghz enabled and request the provider to split those signals." ??!!?

That's a DIY job rather than something an ISP will do.

So to split the two channels you need to go to your router config page which can be found by typing 192.168.0.1 into your web browser. To access the page, you'll need;

username: admin

password: sky OR your WiFi password

- Select wireless from the navigation bar and scroll down a little and untick the 'Synchronise 2.4GHz and 5GHz settings'

- Scroll to the bottom of the page and hit apply.

- Once the page reloads you need to go to the 5GHz wireless settings page on the sub navigation bar below where you click wireless before

- In the 5GHz section you want to go to the box called 'Name (SSID)' and add something like 5g to the end of the current name

- Scroll down and hit apply

- Then on any wireless device you should now see two networks. One network will be the same name as usual and will be 2.4GHz band and the other will be the usual name with 5G on the end (Or whatever you typed). Connect any 5GHz capable device to the 5GHz network and see if it works correctly. The WiFi password should be the same if you havent changed it.

Seperating the wifi bands will give you two different ssids then allocate the printer to the 2.4ghz ssid

Re: Band width on router needs adjusting to connect printer

Once the printer has been connected to the WiFi then it should be possible to have the two bands together again as when separated this might cause a loss of connection for other WiFi devices.

When joined again make sure the original ssid and password is used..

Re: Band width on router needs adjusting to connect printer

Hi, thanks very much for help. I have attempted several times and on two devices to get to the wireless setting but after I have put in my user name and password it attempts connection and fails only to have another log in box appear that gives the same result of a frozen log in box.
