3rd party router

I bought a tplink ac2100 based on a video showing how easy it was to upgrade, however it has not gone to plan. I can rasily connect to the router but i cant connect to the internet. I have read many post and forums with conflicting information.

I think it might be a mer option 61 issue.

However some say my router supports it some say it doesnt , many say to change the ipv6 settings but the options listed are not shiwn in my router settings.

I have spent hours on this and need help. Tia

What model do you have? There are a few labelled as AC2100

If you have an FTTC connection you need to set-up via the web GUI, not the tether app.

  1. Plug in your TP-Link to a power supply and connect the grey DSL cable to the corresponding port on the back of your router.
  2. Connect the other end of your DSL cable to the micro-filter that comes with the router and connect it to your phone socket. If you already have a micro-filter, replace it with the new one.
  3. Connect the network cable to port 1 on the router, then connect the other end to your laptop.
  4. Open a browser window and navigate to http://192.168.1.1.
  5. The TP-Link will ask you to set an admin password – make sure you use something secure.
  6. Once in, the TP-Link setup wizard will start:
    • Input your location and time zone. Click Next.
    • Select Sky(MER)_VDSL from the ISP list. Make sure it’s this one, as this is Sky fibre. The other Sky option in the list is for Sky Broadband and will not work for fibre connections.
    • In the username field, enter abcdefgh@skydsl
    • In the password field, enter 1234567890abcdef
    • Click Next, then set up your wireless network how you see fit.
    • The TP-Link will then test the Internet connection and you should see a success message. If you do not, wait for the DSL light to stop flashing and try again – it should work just fine.
  7. That’s it, you should be sorted.

Ok, for that then you need the DHCPv6 path, nothing special is required, if you setup your CPE router for DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation (PD).  About 80%~ of Openreach's network Sky can authenticate DHCPv6 natively, and then DHCPv4 can piggy back on that.

Have a read of this post, someone with a similar router has got working.

Re: 3rd party router

Thanks for your guidance pointing me in the direction @Skull+Treaty

T-P link  support was pretty useless

For anybody else with the issue here is the solution

I think the router should switch modes when selecting Sky mer but mine did't

So after slecting Sky mer from the dropdown use the username "abcdefgh@skydsl" and password "1234567890abcdef"

mine failed to connect to the internet

Solution go to advanced mode not available on Mobile Basic mode or quickset up

under Operation mode change it to "Wireless Router Mode" and save

then this will give you the correct options under network

Go to Network / Internet /modify your existing set up

the default gateway is now ipoe_1_d because you have changed the operation mode

also you need to enable IPV6 and set addressing type to SLACC,

i then rebooted and it took about 5 minutes but it connected.
