There are numerous threads on this forum about faulty remotes.
The one fix that has worked for number of people, including me, is to hold the remote at both ends and twist as though you were wringing out a cloth. Details can be found on the following thread (post 395)

I would also contact Sky and ask for a replacement. In the interim you can use a Sky Q remote if you have one available.
