Sky Glass Gen 2 - is this normal?

I've noticed when watching sports particularly , voices can sound a little fuzzy but also be overwhelmed by the background noise. Eg. The darts last Thursday, the humming of the crowd was pretty much drowning out the voices which were fuzzy at times.

im trying to work out if this is a problem, or if I'm just getting used to the quality of the sound and Dolby Atmos separating that sound. I don't want to go through the faff of sending it back if it's not really faulty.

Hi .... have you tried turning on the "enhance speech" in the sound settings ?

I would think there is an issue with the speakers if the sound is fuzzy.

Thank you. After another week with it and some more testing, I've narrowed it down mofe. It turns out it's not the voices - it happens mostly when I'm watching sports and there's an audience. The top speakers, which are supposed to provide the background crowd noises, seem to just emit a constant sort-of hum... this is presumably when the crowd is not so loud and what's really being picked up is the hum of voices in the crowd. But something about it doesn't sound right. I'm trying to decide if it's broken, or if it's just the surround sound has improved so much I can actually hear the crowd much better but I'm just not used to it

I am having this exact issue today, but I am sure it's not been like it the last week and a bit of me having the Glass V2.

I've just received my Sky Glass Gen 2 and there is a very noticable hum /  hiss when we re watching anything. So noticable it's a distraction from whatever we are watching. Not sure if this is normal or I need to request a replacement TV

I've not noticed this on my gen2 . Sometimes the sound can throw up some anomalies when watching YouTube (which is probably down to the mixed recording quality) but in general tv shows it's fine

Could be a faulty, personally I would request an exchange @Lenkiewicz  if it's making a humming noise on every thing you watch.

Re: Sky Glass Gen 2 - is this normal?

This has been more or less the same for me since getting the Gen 2. (See some of my other recent posts) I don't have the sports pack so can't comment on that. On the whole, the audio is mostly fine but the vocal clarity (even with voice enhancement mode on) seems to be lost with background noises. There's been times where softer speaking voices (particular female or dialogue spoken quietly) can get lost and sound too faint. Watching a bit of breakfast news before work as an example, 'Good Morning Britain' Richard Madeley's voice has a bit of that bass depth to it but a female presenter when speaking words with S sounds, just appear muffled and too flat. I've reached a theory that it might be down to the echo effect that is coming from the top speakers. Like you say, it should just be background noise coming from those ones. Playing Dolby Atmos content (and actually David Blaine: Do. not attempt, Nat Geo) which isn't in Atmos, there is no hiss or distortion through the top speakers and it is simply the background noises as it should be that you can hear. Put on a live channel, let's say 101-105 and you'll find distorted squeaky voices (the ones you can hear through the front speakers better) getting mixed in with the background noises and it just sounds really strange. I'm hoping this will get fixed in a future software update. If it's not Dolby Atmos or the sounds can't be mixed correctly, I'd rather just hear everything from the front speakers and nothing at all from the top ones. Then it might just solve the hiss, hums and echo's that are preventing us from hearing voices how we should (and did on the gen 1) Come on Sky, this TV is meant to be better!

I had the same on my Gen2 Glass and was one of the reasons I returned it.

I tried various different types of programmes from various app sources and from a 4K BluRay player connected via HDMI but the top speakers were inconsistent and would often have a low hiss when no sound was being sent to them. It was loud enough to be distracting which suggests they are quite cheaply wired up inside the unit.

I returned the TV and invested in an OLED with a separate Atmos capable AVR and surround speakers. The difference is frankly incredible, and the surround speakers do not hiss at all when no sound is being fed to them.

I do feel that Sky Glass is far too expensive for what it is. Yes, it's tidy and aesthetically pleasing to many people, but the components inside are (in my opinion) definitely not premium.

I have Glass Gen 2, noticed the same on sports programs, have now connected my Sonos Arc with Sub mini, the sounds are night & day better that the inbuilt speakers, they cost as much as the Glass tv on their own

Re: Sky Glass Gen 2 - is this normal?

Sounds like this is pretty common then and not just me going crazy – I'm glad to hear that.

In the end I called Sky and they sent a replacement out, the man said it wasn't an issue that was due to be fixed in any upcoming software updates (although that could obviously change by the day) so he thought it was a hardware issue and got it changed. In fairness my 2nd one has been waaaayy better so goodness knows what it is. Maybe a faulty batch?
