Sky Q with Deco X55

The issue i have is that we live in a house which is hard to get good WiFi at decent speeds and stability. Our ISP is Sky and we have the Sky Q Hub/Router, a Netgear unmanaged swith as the Hub only has 1 port, Sky Q main box and 1 mini box with a booster in between them, all 3 on the same floor.

I have read about these whole home mesh systems so decided to take the plunge with this TP-Link X55 as i recognised they are a good make with a good reputation. So today i tried to install them. I put the Deco's into AP mode as suggested with comments ive read. I managed to update and install all 3 and took wifi readings around the home and it was a vast improvement on consistancy from room to room, excellent i thought!!

I then turned both TV's back on, that where the issue lies. The main Sky Q box seemed to be Ok but the Mini box definitley wasn't. The picture just froze or threw up a connection error. The main Q box is NOT wired up via ethernet, but the Mini does have an ethernet cable routing its way back to the Sky Q Hub/Router.

How on earth do you get the Deco mesh X55 system to work with Sky Q? Sky are a massive concern in the UK and people must have a Deco system that works with it. I thought by going with the latest Deco issues from the past may have been sorted.

Can anyone please describe what i have to do in an 'idiots guide' laymans terms please, as i'm certainly not a techy but willing to give the Deco's another try. I really dont want to send them back.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Sky Q with Deco X55

Thank you so much for your help. Ive virtually done what said and its all working at the moment. Deco seem to be solid as a rock too. I hard wired both boxes and would advise anyone to do the same,i should of done it years ago!!.

I'll list what ive done in case it helps anyone else looking to do this.

Going from Sky Q BB to Deco X55 set up

  1. Put Sky Hub/Router into settings page. (192.168.0.01)Under the Wireless tab then un tick Enable Wireless Access Point, Enable WPS, & Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)… Then Apply. This has to be done for both 2.4GHz & 5GHz
  2. Set Deco’s up via their App
  3. Main Deco connected to Sky Hub via Ethernet
  4. Main Deco ethernet to Switch
  5. Main Deco ethernet to Sky Q main box
  6. Sky Q main box, turn OFF 5GHZ wifi in engineers menu (Settings 001>Select) Leave the 2.4 GHz as On.
  7. Sky Q main box, connect a Network via Cable by doing a reset of Network
  8. Mini box connected via ethernet to Switch (no need to do step 7 on mini box)
  9. Repeat step 6 on the mini box.
  10. Un plug mini box for a minute , then plug back in and restart.

@fa+smith Sky Q mini boxes cannot be connected to third party wifi its a design limitation. If I am understanding your set up correctly you have turned of the Sky hub's wifi and connected the main Q box to the Deco wifi which only use the 2.4GHz band as it is designed to do. In third party system the main Q box uses its 5GHz hotspot to connect to any Q minis. You say you have wired your Q mini back to the hub so I would switch off that mini's wifi to force it to use thst connection rather than the Sky Q main box's wifi.

Doing tgat isn't difficult on the Q mini go into the menus navigatecto settings but press0,0,1 before select which opens a hidden menu where there are controls for the wifi bands turn both off. Tgen save and exit. I would restart the box by unplugging the mains for a few seconds and on re-start it should pick up the etgernet connection.

I would also use the NetworkOptimisation option in the More section of the Deco app as that should stop any interference issues with the 5GHz hotspot on the main Sky Q box. If that doesn't work then you can turn off the 5GHz band on that Q box using the same process dont turn off the 2.4GHz band as you are using that but I believe you can now turn off the hotspot function but I no longer have Q boxes myself to check.

Hope that helps.

@fa+smith glad it works. If you are hard wiring all of the Q boxes you can disable the main box's 2.4GHz wifi band as well

Re: Sky Q with Deco X55

Hi guys,

I've got Sky Q and 2 Mini Boxes and I've been having connectivity issues with my recently purchased Deco X60 kit. Am I right in thinking that this is a known issue/limitation with Mesh kit in general and Sky Q?

Until I get a definitive response I've resorted to using a standalone wifi AP just for the Sky boxes. And that has been faultless.

Thanks.
