Zen are a more specialised ISP and cost a fair bit more per month than Sky broadband. The reason Zen costs more is because they provide better kit and better support. You get what you pay for. Having over 64 devices is certainly more than the average Sky customer so in your case a 3rd party router would be the expected setup.

I have just got off the phone with tech support and have been told I gave too many devices for the 66mps to work I have 22 which include 4 of sky's. 

 

Been told my limit should he 6/8 max how can this be when I see the figures here?? 

 

All I want is to watch TV with a signal and watch shows like Netflix or Disney plus without having TV disconnect from it and having to reset the router every night!

22 shouldnt really be a problem. Are you seeing all devices disconnecting or just the Sky Q system?

Basically I get intermittent wifi drop outs though out the day.

 

My multi room box in kitchen glitches and freezes while my bedroom one says no sat signal and always wants to re connect to main Q box.

 

It'd annoying in the evening having to re set my router half way though a series episode because it has signal dropped out.

Can I also pipe in on this one as it seems sky just make stuff up all the time.

 

I experience devices being booted and then reconnecting a few minutes later.

 

Engineer called out today and said the router can handle a maximum of 15 devices, no more than 12 recommended!!

 

I have Sky Q a Q mini and a booster.

 

I have about 36 items connected, a it like the OP I have smart bulbs and plugs and TVs making up this mostly.

 

Sounds to me like sky just making this up as they go to defend very poor kit?

@StevenC19 I know for a fact I will be seen as defending Sky here, but why does everyone these days expect kit/routers that are bundled for free by an ISP,  when relatively, people on a domestic ISP pay peanuts for a broadband connection, to be top quality, server grade, flawless kit? 

If you have a large network with a significant number of devices, and demand high performance, this is exactly the reason that kit like Netgears Orbi exists....if you demand performance you have to pay for it. Would you buy a Ford fiesta and expect it drives like a Ferrari?

Worth remembering that the Q Hub was released in early 2016 and the Sky Broadband Hub in late 2019.  For a household with a significant number of smart devices, the 2023 Max Hub or a third party router is likely to be much more suitable.

Sorry but how is having 30 devices demanding Ferrari performance?  I accept the crap 60mb connection that delivers 50mb at best, but I don't expect sky's own devices to keep randomly dropping.

 

A light bulb eats no bandwidth so why is having 10 bulbs exceeding ability of router?

My Sky Q box (SR203) is happily ticking along as I type with 50 devices on IPv4 and 14 on IPv6, this will go up to around 70 devices when the kids get home.

 

Very occasionally a smart plug will go offline, but largely everything is stable and works fine.

 

Earlier in this thread a Sky team member assured me the box can handle more than 64 connections.

I suspect it's more to do with 32 and 64 being significant numbers in IT where, very roughly speaking, things run out of space....

You could try assigning fixed IP addresses to each device. Sometimes there is an IP address conflict and that can make the box hang / lag / crash.

Because as mentioned by @TimmyBGood the routers were designed for homes years ago where you would only tend to see each person in a home connect 2-3 devices per person. Having 30+ can cause issues even if they are smart devices because they still require the router to talk to them, give them an IP address via DHCP and maintain a steady WiFi connection even if that link isnt processing much/any data.
