Glass (Feedback)

Hey, so just upgraded (though im not 100% sure its an "upgrade") to Sky glass from Sky Q. Got the 65 tv and couple of pucks. So all set up etc no issues, but... on the Q if i started to watch something, it would remember the last episode i watch and play from the next one. But glass doesn't seem to do this. In my example I'm watching Gold rush, sometimes it plays without issue, other times it pushing me into the discovery app, then i need to mess about getting the right episode. Then after I've watch for a bit, if i go back, glass doesn't know what episodes I've watched since it pushed me into the discovery app. I've had other little annoyances, for example i pay for add skipping, but it just fast forwards. Well i could do that on Q for free... I assumed add skipping would be like youtube, where you pay a fee and don't get them, or at the very least have a button to skip all adds rather than fast forwarding. The Mrs thinks the picture quality is better, but my older TV i found the blacks were blacker if that makes sence. Anyway, other all the tv is nice, sound it great etc. Just feel that the Sky bit of it is just a tad of a downgrade, i mean there isn't the same number of channels, and it relies heavy on third party apps, which makes the playlists a bit of a mess, also the playlist doesn't sync with the pucks, like Q did with the mini boxes. First world problems i now. Just feeling a little under excited after all the hype. If anyone has any tips etc to get the most out of this, let me know.

Sky don't generally market it as an 'upgrade' from Q, though: that might be read as implied, I guess.

Ad-skipping is defined by Sky here:  https://www.sky.com/help/articles/ad-skipping-sky-glass

Quite possibly: no-one ever accused Glass of having the best panel in the world, and keep in mind all the current batch is 'pandemic-production' hardware.

Just feeling a little under excited after all the hype.

I'd suggest that 'all the hype' was almost entirely Sky advertising and other paid-for promotion: independent reviews back in October 2021 were on the lines of 'adequate image for a mid-range set with somewhat better sound' at best.

Keep in mind that if you choose to reject the product within the one-month permitted window you'll need to call Sky to do so, and over the next few weeks there's likely to be reduced call-centre availability.

Many forum posters are happier running Stream pucks on non-Sky television sets: it's frankly somewhat odd that Glass hardware is now more expensive than it was two years ago for the same specification.

Sky's "ad skipping" is permission to fast forward through ads. Without "ad skipping" you have to watch the ads on on-demand😉

On Sky's budget service NOW  TV the Boost membership completely removes ads (but not promos) from on-demand🤔

Re: Glass (Feedback)

I didnt say i planned to reject it. But thanks for the info, I guess I was just having a wee moan and figured thier might be some tips to get the best out of it. In any case, I would probably need to start a new order etc for Q again as my account has all been updated etc so I will stick with it.

Back in late 2021 there were many posts relating to custom image settings, at least in part because Sky managed to release the set with a broken local dimming algorithm.  These days the default auto settings are pretty much as good as can be expected.

In any case, I would probably need to start a new order etc for Q again as my account has all been updated etc so I will stick with it.

The Sky system is specifically designed to cope with reversion from Glass to Q: what it can't do is Glass back to Sky+ HD.

Sky consistently market Glass as an upgrade to Q if you have Q.

It is referred to as an upgrade in MySky, in promotional material and even when you call or use chat. To be fair, if you don't have Q you won't see it and for some people it actually will be an upgrade.

Upgrade is the marketing word for change.... change doesn't sound as upbeat🤔
