Wifi

Broadband into the house is fine, (according to a speed test on the hardwired iMac), but WiFi around the house just dropped to next to nothing today, again, this after the engineers visited a month ago and got everything up and running properly after a similar incident but that found issues with their cabinet and our old socket.  Have no idea why the WiFi around the house would just fail again - no changes in setup, been this way for over ten years! - so asking for ideas, please, if anyone has any.  Going through Sky's online support find our Sky Go isn't activated and wonder what impact this has; the Help suggests it should be activated?  Will be spending time on the phone to Sky again tomorrow but any help gratefully appreciated.

@John+Conway wifi speeds around your home are influenced by the layout and construction of your  home. If you live in an older property solid walls these will inevitably cause issues however modern homes can be just as bad if they have foil faced plasterboard in the walls. However there maybe things you can do the first is to make sure your hub is above things like radiators which will block the signal. More ideas here Sky Help - Slow wifi

Next is to consider if you need more coverage than the free Sky hub can provide. Modern applications like online gaming and streaming video require both sufficent bandwidth and regularity which often requires something like a whole home Wifi set up or the use of powerline adapters which use the home's mains wiring to get the signal to a distant point. There is a wide range of possibilities starting from cheap "boosters" which Sky will send if you buybtheir Wifi Boost bundle, up,to spending multiple hundreds on high spec kit. Before buying though post here to check your chosen solution will work with whatever service you are buying from Sky.

Your Sky Go account is separate and you may need to raise that with Sky if you cant get it working.

Re: Wifi

Thx Chrisee for taking the time to read my post and offer advise.  The problem has fixed itself overnight, which was largely expected tbh.  Problems, when they do happen, do tend to be short-lived but two particular dropouts have been drawn out affairs that required Openreach engineering attention to fix at their box despite online checks, either run by me or the telephone technical help, saying all was fine.  Absolutely not intending to be funny or reductive of your kind help but our problems always start getting answered by Sky in the way you did, even though we've been in our house for 30+ years and the only structural changes are to remove walls etc.  To avoid going into pedantic detail would summarise our belief that the problem lies outside the confines of our house as 99% of the time our WiFi is excellent.  Dropouts occasionally happen, always against a backdrop of the online testing suggesting there's no problem with the incoming supply.  It doesn't add up to my engineer's mind.

Re: Wifi

Hi All!  The problem returned during the day and, it turns out, the problem was the router channel.  It became too busy and Sky technical help helped me change it to one with acceptable speeds, +50Mbps in this part if the house (at time of writing).  Happy with that and very happy with Sky's assistance sorting the issue (assuming speeds hold up). I've never doubted the online's support's willingness to help and they've come good this time 👍 Thx Chris
