Please can anyone tell me how to get app function on Sharp Smart TV to allow access to ITVX

Doesn't sound like a Sky issue? Your best bet is to consult your TV user guide or contact Sharp support.

If you have Sky Q then you can access the app via your box.

Unfortunately, if you have a 2016, 2017, or 2018 Freeview Play-certified Sharp Aquos Net+ TV model, it’ll neither receive the ITVX update nor no longer allow you to use the older ITV Hub app.

Same here, I have Sharp Aquos TV of 2016 model, it doesn't allow me to use the older version of ITV Hub app. I know my TV model is dated, but still they need to provide the support.

They don't though: there's no obligation on television manufacturers to continue to support apps on older models, even for PSB channels, and in some cases the underlying hardware or smart operating system may simply not meet the specification for a modern app to run.

ITVX is available on Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream: from memory this thread dates back to the period after launch in late 2022 when it didn't appear on Q and the advice to Q subscribers was to use a smart television instead.
