Pay per view

I wish that sky offered all sports games as pay per view rather than having to subscribe for a month just to watch one game. I don't want to pay £18 to watch a game of cricket but would be happy to pay a lesser amount for the game. If they can do it with the boxing then surely they would make more money for them to offer this in the future.

Nope: PPV boxing by its very nature is limited to the globally-promoted highest level bouts with huge purses and correspondingly eye-wateringly expensive broadcasting rights for a one-off event of which a bare handful happen in any particular year.  That's a completely different business model to most other sports.

You might be in the minority with this idea as there was uproar on here back in 2020 when the covid pandemic hit and all football games were shown as originally some were on pay per view and as it didn't got down very well at all that was soon changed so that they were no longer PPV.

Re: Pay per view

If people want to subscribe to a certain sports channel then they can, I was referring to them offering games as a one off payment for those who choose not to subscribe. The only way to do that now is to subscribe for 1 month for up to £21, then cancel. If they offered each game as a one off payment added to your next bill I'm sure many people would choose this option rather than subscribing for a month just to watch one game, especially for those who work when most games are on.

@Jggidkkr  Sky can't sell games individually it's as simple as that because the premier league don't sell those rights

Sky along with any other broadcaster can only show games in the rights format the league sells them ppv isn't one of them

Re: Pay per view

I'm aware of that reason, but that doesn't mean that it's not a good idea. Although it isn't set up as ppv, you can still subscribe for a month to watch the game you want. Maybe another idea is that you can subscribe for 15 days as a minimum for half the price, making it cheaper for people like me who work when most live games are on.

Now tv offer a day pass for sports, but that's 12 euro. You'd really be buying it for a specific event

That be what you are looking at for buying individual events.

The cost of £18 or €29 or whatever is because you are paying for the choice to watch anything but so much content that you can't watch everything, while 12 euro is the rate for a specific day

Specifically because when the PL was set up (which was intrinsically linked to the sale of television rights in general and BSkyB in particular ) it was understood that some matches would be far more desirable than others, and if these were sold as individual 'premium' events then the overall funding structure for all twenty clubs wouldn't work.

@TimmyBGood

Interesting historical information on Sports Rights thanks and yeah defo regardless of sport there is often more desirable games to watch between either rivals or close in skill/level.

Re: Pay per view

You can get a now sports day pass but probably better off getting a month for £18 through sky
