Quick Q re channel splitting

Hi there... Apologies for this - I know that much of my query has been answered before - but I wanted just to check in for some thoughts from the kind people here who post such detailed and helpful replies.

I moved across to Sky last Nov - I have a couple of 2ghz devices a doorbell and a camera. At first there seemed to be no issues with the blended channels - but over the last few weeks I have been loosing connectivity to them almost daily. The camera now refuses to reconnect and the doorbell seems to lose connection at night - but, bizarely (and may be co-incidence) the bell seems to kick in again in the morning when the Sky Q box is switched on again after been switched off overnight.

Although I could, I dont want to leave the box on all day and night - I find it strange that the connectivity issues of the two different products is slightly odd. I have tried changing the default channel on the 2ghz channel which hasnt helped. There are a few houses round me with small children - I wondered if things like baby monitors might be causing some interference (sounds odd - but thats google searching for you!).

Do you guys think if I split and reconnect the bell/camera this should rectify the problem? I am very happy to give it a go, but was a bit baffled by the bell kicking in again once the box is on!

I was on Virgin - with split channels and had zero issues for years and years - must admitm its put a bit of a downer on my Sky experience but if its an easy fix then great.

Also, have seen different opinions on this - I will have more 5ghz capable devices than 2ghz only ones - is it wise to rename the 2ghz channel rather than the 2ghz one and as and when I make the split - will I need to reconnect the 5ghz ones if I dont change the name or only the 2ghz ones to the new named channel.

Thanks and apologies again for going over some old ground

@malexicon although most devices should stay connected to dualband SSIDs a few bits of kit can be fussy. It is better to run with dualband especially if you have Sky Q boxes but it is not great loss to split the bands and needs must in some cases. These are the instructions Split Sky WiFi bands

Where I have spilt the bands I rename one it really doexnt matter which but if you want to keep, the majority of devices on the 5GHz band rename the 2.4GHz one as you will have fewer devices to reconnect. I would put the slower and older devices on the 2.4GHz band like smart lights, printers etc leaving thec5GHz band for faster devices like video streamers phones etc

Remember the 5GHz band has far less range than the 2.4GHz band so while suffering less from inyreference from your neighbours may not quite reach the furthest point in your home. Installing a wifi analzer app on a phone means you can check signal strength and channel,of all networks in range. Two networks with reasonable signal strength on the same or adjacent channels will interefere.

Re: Quick Q re channel splitting

Thanks for this - I'll load on the analyser app too and see what I can dig up.

Hoepfully once I split everything goes back into a nice stable environment again
