Re: The box keeps disconnecting to the wifi so can’t use search or any apps.I keep resetting

It’s funny you should ask.  A couple of weeks ago, a Sky engineer called at my neighbour’s.  I told him the problem I have, and he said that the solution is to connect a booster box hard wired to my EE router.  Connected via an ethernet cable.  I asked how I could get such a box, and he said I should phone Sky and tell them that my Sky Q box won’t switch on.  That way I wouldn’t have to go through the palaver of the call handler giving me instructions and having to input the long router password, which would never work anyway.   I asked him if, when the engineer arrives, if he would have a booster box with him.  He said he always carries one with him.  After chatting for a while, he gave me the box, albeit a used one, and then he installed it for me.  He had to change the settings in the Sky Q box to look for the booster rather than my EE router.  He worked so quickly; I couldn’t keep up with him to see how he did it.  The remote had to be re-programmed as well.  I haven’t posted on here with the solution previously, because I wanted to see if it worked ok.  And so far, it’s been great (removed).  I hope that works for you.  Happy New Year.

And to further add, the engineer told me that it's absolutely nothing to do with not having Sky broadband, or Sky doing it deliberately to get us to change our broadband supplier to Sky.

Well I sincerely hope this proves to be a permanent solution, and maybe you found the one helpful person who works for sky who actually understands their equipment and has the solution, however given that many of us have tried everything we can think of including using boosters, extenders, mesh, hard wired, etc. I fear that you will be getting a recurrence of the issue before long.

If not then we surely have to ask if this is a working solution and sky know about it, why are we all getting the run around instead of quick solutions.

Thanks for sharing though I will bear this in mind next time my sky becomes unbearable, as it is I am still experiencing a purple patch which I can only attribute to changing from a Samsung to  a Sony TV.

My combination of hard wired into a mesh and powerlines has been working fine for >4 years now. Disabling wifi is critical though.

That Booster method is probably the next best thing and I can see how that might work if the distances involved aren't too great, albeit needs a bit of cooperation from Sky. The remote needing re-pairing suggests the engineer did a settings reset to clear all the network config.

If it was intentional, why did they make the new Sky Max router work just as badly as 3rd party routers?

Having said that, I wouldn't say it's "got nothing to do with not having Sky broadband". Although there have been plenty of threads on here from Sky bb customers with problems, it's pretty clear that did work more reliably with the previous hardware and its built-in support for the proprietary Q mesh.

Yes, you are correct.  He did a complete system reset.  I had to login again to all the different channels - Netflix, iPlayer, Discovery+, Paramount & Prime, but it was a small price to pay if this hard wired Sky box continues to work.  Fingers crossed.

Re: The box keeps disconnecting to the wifi so can’t use search or any apps.I keep resetting

I have found my way to this thread sadly.

Sky Q worked flawlessly for 4 years until my broadband provider changed and I moved my router location so I switched from ethernet to wifi.

Had the same issues as others in the thread. Would enter wifi details, and after x hours, it would say no connection on the home screen and have to re-enter them. Rebooting via socket would clear the message initially butthen come back soon after.

Tried the guest network trick. Didn't change much. Tried checking the expert settings. Noticed the Router IP & DNS server looked wrong (both 192.168.5.1) although the connection worked prior to changing, changing Router IP to 192.168.1.1 and DNS to 1.1.1.1 didn't do anything. Although eventually I did notice that that although it said it didn't have a connection, it did. I could go to Youtube via the voice remote and watch new videos there. On the network setup, it would be ticked. But on the home screen and the apps list screen it would say no connection. So it was like it was working but there was a bug in the UI that wouldn't refresh when box connected to wifi.  Eventually rebooting via socket stopped clearing the message oddly.

In the end as I had spare powerline adapters, plugged them in and it worked straight away. Didn't even need a network reset although did one anyone. Only been an hour or so but so far so good.

So as someone else said in the thread earlier, just use ethernet or powerlines to save your sanity. If this has been an issue since 2023 and Sky must been aware of it I doubt they'd ever fix it at this point.

Re: The box keeps disconnecting to the wifi so can’t use search or any apps.I keep resetting

I didn't try any of the resets, which may have worked. It's a bit silly that the basic reset doesn't update network settings. The only one that does wipes all your recordings which I was trying to avoid.

Re: The box keeps disconnecting to the wifi so can’t use search or any apps.I keep resetting

I have sky broadband and the exact same problem.  Had an engineer round for a couple of hours.  Worked fine while they were here.  As soon as they left the q box dropped out again. Every time I switch it on I have to put the password in again.  Absolute pain and making the whole thing un usable

It is always possible (unless you don't own the property) to have wires. It's just a lot of work. Very few people using ethernet have the router in the same room.

or you could use powerlines

or a wifi mesh (can be pricey depending how new tech. The latest wifi 7 ones are comedy prices)
