Sky Go App for Windows 11 not working properly

I was having the same frustrating issues with the Sky Go volume and full screen controls when watching content. I planned to install a Windows 10 virutal machine just to install the Sky Go application on. What I found after enabling the Hyper-V Platform windows fearture was that the application then worked as expected. If I disable the windows feature the issues return! Hopefully this is useful to other users.

Thanks for this - what version/build of windows were you using ?

On 23H2 Sky Go appears to work ok

On 24H2 it did not.

My theory way that the different security arrangements in 24H2 were causing a conflict, since it was the epg which started "stalling"

I suspected that populating the template of the epg with channel information was completed by dBase calls which were undertaken with guest/default or inadequate privelidges (blocked for security reasons in 24H2) causing them to time out or hang.

I have'nt yet been able test this due time constraints.

I'm not sure how isolating SKy Go to a VM allows the app to then work correctly - but thanks v.much for the pointer and potential solution !

I am running Windows 24H2.

Sorry if not clear from my original post but I did not end up having to run the application in a VM. Once that feature was enabled the application worked on my host OS. Done a bit more experimentation and narrowed it down specifically to the windows feature 'Hyper-V Services'. With that feature enabled the application works as expected. I don't have an explanation as to what exactly the application is leveraging with that service enabled but I'm just happy it is now working after months of issues.

Had a look again at this, but Hyper-V comes with Windows Pro and I only have Home edition.

The problem seems to be connected to encryption.  If you start Skygo on 24H2, and immediately select any BBC channel, then it all works as it should.  But once you select another channel, such as Sky Sports or even just ITV1, the problem occurs.  If you then try to return to a BBC channel, you get there eventually but the problem remains.  Sounds like it's kicking off a background task and then is stuck running it.

What I have noticed is that 'downloads' work fine and no issues present, so anything on demand can be downloaded and viewed, doesnt hep with everything but does if can be downloaded.

I can't believe how many people are experiecning this issue. I've also got the problem, I literally have just bought another brand new laptop which had the issue immediately after signing in. I noticed when going into Task Manager as most of the time the close button doesn't work is that I am running '32-bit' SkyGo? I would've thought my Ryzen 7, RTX 4050 16GB would be able to run 64-bit SkyGo. Unless of course the app only comes in 32-bit.

I'll try the HyperV fix tonight!

Unfortunately that isnt an option with HOME version of Windows 11, only PRO version.

I have windows 11 Pro and confirm by doing as described in post 31 this has worked for me. SKY GO had been broken for ages driving me mad. This however fixed it straight away. Do not know why it works but it does if you have windows 11 pro.

Solved (yay) and thankyou for this link. Instead of installing the Hyper V on my Win home edition I installed a free programme called 'Oracle Virtual Box' which was mentioned in a previous link by a user above @ian2512, @skyGOuser94 . My Sky Go now works as it should. Thanks for your assistance guys, hopefully Sky will give us some credit for sorting out there mess.

Probably works because they only test in Virtual Machines. This is not a fix but a workaround.

How long did this HyperV install take for everyone? Mine seems to be just sitting on

Are you running Sky Go on a virtual machine in virtual box or is it just that simply installing this on your PC made the Sky app work?

Similar to others I have a decent gaming PC with 16gb RAM and 8gb gfx card yet can't play Skt Go 😕 yet my phone and tablet hasn't no such issues. And the PC had no issues with Netflix, Prime, Disney etc

No not running on a VM just enabling this makes it work.
