ONT Only Ethernet
I have just the below ONT modem with a power cable, fibre cable and Ethernet slot - we don't have have a space for a phone line connection. Openreach have confirmed ultra fast is available at the property.
what hub can I get that we can just plug in ourselves and wait for remote activation?

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
@Jake150 if you order Sky Broadband Sky will send you a hub which connects to the ONT and has a standard phone socket on the back which you use for the included Sky Talk voice service.

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
Hi Chrisee,
we were sent a hub but the instructions are not relevant to that ONT. it had instructions on plugging it into a phone socket into the wall which the property does not have

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
@Jake150 if the hub is the upright type model SR203 simply plug one end of an ethernet cable* into the ONT and the other into Port 4 on the rear of the hub - it should be marked as a WAN - and power up the hub. If your service is active it should connect and after a few minutes tge four LEDs should show green and if you plug your phone into the socket onnthe hub you should have a dialling tone.
If you have a different type of hub or it doesn't connect call Sky
*if Sky haven't sent you a cable you can buy one at a hardware store or supermarket you dont need anything special.

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
As @Chrisee indicates, the Sky Broadband Hub and the Max Hub are suitable for both FTTC (wall socket) and FTTP (ONT) connection, and typically have two different sets of instructions.

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
@TimmyBGood in practice Sky normally only include one set of instructions and the correct connection cable in the box (at least that applied to the hubs I have got) but I guess mistakes happen and the wrong kit is occasionally despatched.
The infamous copper to fibre "conversion kit" is of course just an ethernet cable and the leaflet in a otherwise empty box.😀

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
Thanks for this.
why could the engineer not install when he arrived though? Openreach have confirmed we are eligible for ultra fast fibre and the engineer said he can't install as would need to get on the roof. However he did say we could get full fibre at the property.
Any ideas on next steps or what to explain to sky customer service? Unsure why I can't just get a hub that can plug in and be remotely activated

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
What package did you order from Sky?
Can you go to this site and use the 'address check' then post the resulting table back here

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
I'd note there's no power supply plugged into the ONT: without that you won't see any diagnostic lights.
With an ONT present, one would hope no installer work was required.
Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which provisioning type is applicable.

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.
Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
Also perhaps worth noting that's a very recent model of ONT, probably installed during 2023. Previous models didn't have the 'Moving?' advisory message.

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
Hi, please see below for the results I found. Please note I do have a power cable for the ONT, it just wasn't plugged in at the time the picture of the ONT was taken

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
OK, so that shows Openreach knows the ONT is there and that its optical cable arrives underground, so I'm puzzled that the engineer was referring to the roof: that's typically a problem for a Sky satellite dish installation rather than broadband anyway.
The only slightly suspicious this is possibly the 'no active service' record, which could, I guess, mean it's never actually been live.

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
It might be useful to power up the ONT and see which of the LEDs is lit.

Re: ONT Only Ethernet
When I power it up, the power light goes green and the POS is green. The LOS and LAN are both completely off with no lights.
previous tenant had a BT smart hub 2 in the property I believe
