@Paul+Ions

Make sure Optical Audio Out, in the Sky audio visual settings, is not set to Dolby Digital Plus.

Re: Sky connection to AV Receiver

Hi All, made an account just to reply to this.

I have a similar scenario set up with my reicever, and went for optical audio in the end. I hav a Sony STR-DB1080, and was using a seperate hdmi - optical converter to test out hdmi with arc. My amp differentiates between 2-channel stereo, and 5.1 surround depending on the broadcast, for example channel 5 brouadcasts in 5.1 surround sound. I found this didn't happen over hdmi.

Re: Sky connection to AV Receiver

@apit Wow, thats a proper antique. I was still running a DE series until last year and I thought it was impressive that was still going.

I wonder if what you were experiencing had something to do with the HDMI converter, or a TV setting. I've got a STR-DN being fed via ARC and it recognises and Identifies whether the signal is DD/ DD+ and shows the audio format / channel information correctly.

Re: Sky connection to AV Receiver

 I have just got Sky q

I have a Onkyo TX NR 636 I have connected Sky Q to the HDMI through the Amp it came up error when I went to UHD. read your blog I have tried to a connection 2.2 4K point on the back of the Amp. I haven't powered everything down yet so will try when I get home. I would prefer to use HDMI rather than optical, what would you recommend other than what you have wrote

Re: Sky connection to AV Receiver

Hi, I have Sky Q now installed. My TV is an LG 58 inch OLED 4K and I have a Yamaha RX-V675 amp. I want to connect the Sky Q to my amp, does anyone know of the best way? I have tried using an optical cable but to no joy. I have HDMI cables but not sure if anyone had any issues setting their systems up?

Thank you.

@Inthewordsof

Your main issue will be that no 2013 AVR can do 4K pass-through, so if you are looking to get UHD from Q into the TV then you'll have to connect them directly and then bring audio back to the Yamaha.

I used to have an RX-V675 years ago and IIRC I had it connected to my TV via ARC.

You will need to connect the TV HDMI 2 (I think that is the ARC port on the LG) to HDMI Out on the 675.

On the TV go into the settings -> Sound -> Sound Out and select Audio Out (Optical/HDMI ARC).

On the 675 remote select On Screen then select Settings and hit Enter and navigate to HDMI and set HDMI Control to ON.

If you select input Audio 1 (which I think is the default input for ARC) on the amp, you should get the TV sound. If not you will have to turn Simplink [Settings -> General  -> Simplink (HDMI-CEC)] on which will select the correct input automatically.

Re: Sky connection to AV Receiver

I happen to like the Marantz styling. Classy and not lit up like a Christmas tree.

Re: Sky connection to AV Receiver

I have Sky Q, Pioneer AV Receiver & Sony LED TV.

Issue: I connected HDMI cable from Sky Q to Pioneer AV receiver. Connected another HDMI cable from Pioneer AV receiver ARC output into Sony TV ARC HDMI connection.

Problem: No picture or sound

ANY IDEA?

To get around this, I connected HDMI cable from Sky Q to Sony TV ARC HDMI. Sky Q optical cable to Pioneer AV receiver. AND this setup works (picture on TV & sound from Pioneer AV receiver) but not ideal.

Hi @HiteshM I am not too sure if you are understanding what ARC is.

ARC stands for Audio Return Channel & is used for sound from the TV to the AV Amp - thus the ARC HDMI input on your TV should really be linked only to ytour AV Amp - the only reason not to do this is if you don't have enough HDMI connections  (The same cable/connnections pass video from the AV Amp to the TV when other sources are selected and whilst it uses the 'ARC' connections for this it isn't in 'ARC' mode when it does that)

Thus in your 'workaround' solution I would suggest linking SKY to another HDMI connection on your TV and revert your ARC connection on your TV to link back to your AV AMP - although you may have to check settings in your TV menus to make sure the audio bitstream is sent out via the ARC HDMI.

When you say you got neither Video or Sound when connecting SKY to you AV Amp did you make sure you selected the right input on you AV Amp ?

I am afraid I don't know Pioneer Amps and it may depend on how recent it is but you may have to check the manual to make sure that the Video Pass through is set - this can vary to HDMI modes and depending on whether you are trying to use 4K and HDR - some menu settings can be in 'Advanced' menus which can be buried in the fine detail in the manuals.

Perhaps you could let us know the models of both your TV & AV Amp so we can see if find manuals to help

Go back to you original connections with the AV and TV ARC ports connected and make sure CEC is switched on on both the TV and AV amp. Most AVRs won't pass anything via the ARC ports without CEC being on.
