Re: Sky Q Release Q17

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

My Sky Q box has been on Eco mode since install 2016 box usually starts up around 05:45am.

Since Q17 update only noticed this morning box was starting up at 05:35 am

Main box is in my bedroom so not an issue must remember when I work days if I hear the box starting up I'm well and truly going to be late for work🤣

@Anonymous  Not all boxes update at the same time, there is little anyone can do to force the updates, you will need to wait.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

@Anonymous As @GD1 says if not all of the boxes have updated then you cannot force an update you will need to wait until the update has been added to the DR stream which is normally when the last batch of updates go out. Once it is on the DR stream you should be able to update your mini box

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

My boxes have updated to Q17 fine but it still says in Settings / System Info / Software Version Setup that I can "update this box with the latest software". I would expect this to say the box is properly updated. I even went through the software update again but at the end of it the software version was the same.

@JulieJJS if the version is correct at q17 you have nothing to worry about. This is normal behaviour. Point taken that the messaging could be improved however.

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

I did a forced update today, so assume it is now on the DR stream.  It updated when I turned the tv on again after a few minutes.

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

@Paul-1   I don't believe there is any official release giving details of what the update contains, I had to read through the posts on this thread to find out which is always a bit of a pain.  I can't remember what they all are now but hopefully someone on here can summarise for us.

@Paul-1 this is a copy of a post a Sky rep wrote to brief the forum superuser group before the release was started

From tomorrow (Tues 31st Aug) we'll start to roll out the next Sky Q update. These are the main changes:-

Rails in the show pages

On the Show Pages we’ve changed from a list view to a rail view. This means more programmes per page can be shown and it’s easier to flick between series. It’s also more consistent as we’ve predominantly gone with rails elsewhere in the menus.

Voice in apps

You can now use some Voice Control commands when you are within the apps.

  • Switch to a channel, i.e. saying BBC One in Disney+ will tune to BBC One
  • Switch to the main menus, i.e. saying recordings in Disney+ will take you to your recordings
  • Switch between apps, i.e. saying Disney+ in Netflix will open Disney+

This is the first update, and the plan is to now increase the level of voice capability within the apps. Ultimately, our goal is for voice to work consistently irrespective of where you are.

Sky Q hotspots enabled for non-Sky broadband customers

Non-Sky broadband customers can now enable Sky Q hotspots via the engineer menu Settings -> Setup -> Advanced Settings. This will be for 2.4Ghz only and the option will not appear for Sky Broadband customers.

Thanks,

There is nothing more than in the first post of this thread, that Sky told us and that obviously encompasses the main upfront customer noticeable changes for a release..

Just keep watching the community and when the next release or change comes, we will sure try to list any upfront changes that Sky pass on for a release.

The Sky Q box sometimes adds some of the new changes to the box Help section, listed under Help>Select to view...>Using Sky Q>Whats New.

Mind its not been updated for anything from the Q17 firmware release yet. Have noticed previosuly that section only gets updated when the firmware release has been pushed out to everyone.

Often in these releases, there are back end fixes, preparation for some upcoming changes and fixes that Sky do not want to make public. Much like any supplier of software or firmware would do, when mentioning what has changed for a release..
