Re: Sky Q Release Q17

Main box is on Q17 but mini hubs are still on Q16 even after updating their software. I'm told by sky that it is much better to have all boxes on same release.

Especially as I've had numerous historical connection issues.

Any thoughts/comments?

@Alan+TW0115 afraid if your main box has updated to Q17 but your minis haven't then you will need to wait until Sky put Q17 on the DR stream so you can download it manually Sky typicall add the new update to the DR stream when the last batch of updates go out

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

I have 2 sky q mini boxes and are all hard wired as the mesh system for sky q is rubbish in my house. the speed between the boxes is better too. never had a problem with connections since doing wired connection.

Please note i have my main router in the living room, then i have 2 8 port switches in the living room then on 1 of these switches another 8 port switch with a another router in ap mode which serves a dead wifi area. then i have 2 wifi boosters around the house/ garden and works brilliant, i am on 500mb broadband with virginmedia. and get 500mb all day and night.  i have my own router which is a Tp-link c4500x gaming router. i have 2 NAS boxes backing up files, computers. and dont see any slow downs.

Oh doh! I have Wi-Fi turned off on all my Q boxes.  Sometimes it's the simplest things. 😂

Nah couldn't do with all the endless amount of wires 8 port switches here and there not to mention boosters and additional routers.

Wireless for me as it suppose to be what a wired nightmare couldn't Live like that regardless of what wired speeds I was getting 😱

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

I've not received the update yet, I've done a manual software update and still on Q16 in my V3 box, I'm on a Fibre IRS system if that makes a difference

@bigollie

No-one can force the update. You just need to wait your turn which could be anything up to four weeks.

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

I thought it downloads over satellite?

@bigollie Yes, the updates come via Satellite

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

So why don't they all update at the same time?

Sky have been doing the phased approach for updates with Sky TV box firmware updates and Sky broadband firmware updates for a long time.
Selecting a random group of Sky customers, it allows them to manage carefully any unforeseen problems seen with the updates and also allows some managed contact through their helpdesk teams if any of the updates call problems or questions.

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

That makes sense, so I don't need to do anything then, it will just update itself?

That's right, box will simply update on it's own.

Re: Sky Q Release Q17

@bigollie I'm usually in one of the last batches to get the update. When I see a post on here announcing that new firmware is being rolled out I get the update 3/4 weeks later. Takes awhile, but always arrives.
