Where the aerial cables go from and to if the error message is no satellite signal

Hi, I am a novice at all this but trying to help my mum reconnect her sky q box to the TV but where do any aerials go to and from. I've tried looking on the Internet but can't find this information.  My mum's friend was talking to sky last night to set it up but the message was always no satellite signal.  Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it please?  Thank you

Is this something that has been previously working, or a new installation?  If it's the latter, the most likely explanation with a Q box is that the satellite dish is not compatible with it.

SkyQ doesn't use aerials it connects to a Sky dish.  You say you are trying to reconnect her Sky box but we perhaps need a bit more information.  For instance is your mum still paying a SkyQ subscription and for some reason the wires to the box have been disconnected and you don't know how to reconnect them?  Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain in a little more detail?

Thank you for relying.

My mum's subscription is current and although she had problems with the communal aerial when it was first installed the sky engineer came out and sorted it. Mum went into hospital and got someone to disconnect all the cables for the sky box, for some reason, but is now at home and although my mum's friend spoke to sky yesterday to go through installing all  the cables it comes up no satellite signal.  I'm not sure if this helps but please ask for more info if needed.  Thank you

@JillalWith a communal aerial there is a single lead from the dish to the Q main box.

If there is still a lead connected to the Q box and the other end goes to a socket in the wall (it will look like a fairly thick cable.

If this is in place the problem is with the signal from the dish this however is the responsibility of whoever manages the building and NOT Sky.

@Jillal Make sure the Q box is not connected to the mains before doing anything with the cables. With most communal installations you only need a single cable which has f type screw connectors. One end goes into either satellite port on the Q box the other connects to the communal system using the same screw connector as the Q box. Also if the engineer left a small box with a satellite connector in and out make sure that is connected between the box and the wall and plugged into the mains.

If that doesnt work go to Settings but press 0,0,1 before selectvwhich opens the engineer's menu and make sure LNB type is set to SCR not Wideband if it doesn't change it and save the change.. Do not change any other settings.

If thst doesnt work get Sky out.

Re: Where the aerial cables go from and to if the error message is no satellite signal

@I presume your mum is in an apartment and connected to a communal dish for all the apartments?   Is it just the SkyQ box that is connected or is there also a sound bar   connected or a DVD player?

if it is just the SkyQ box, then presumably there ia a wire or wires coming into the room from the communal dish and these screw into the two silver ports.  You will then have a power lead with a blue end to it, which goes into the blue port on the box.  You should then be left with a cable coming from the box to the tv.  Can you look at what portthat is going into?

Edit: I was typing this while the post from @ Chrisee came in.😊

@Stephen+MourtonThank you, I got annoyed as I initially posted it at 07:31 it was there for a few minutes and then disappeared, when this happens they usually come back eventually in its original place but by then the same answer has been given by someone else.

It has been happening too much recently.

Re: Where the aerial cables go from and to if the error message is no satellite signal

Thank you for your replies.  I have now checked all the cables and turned off and on and it still says no satellite signal.   I can play recorded programme in the main room with the sky q box but the mini box will not play anything as says check subscription etc.  I have checked the sky account and the sky mini box is connected.  Cables all checked and turned off and on but still can't play recorded programmes.  Any ideas please?  Thank you

@JillalAs the communal dish and distribution of the satellite signal is the responsibility of the management company for the building I would contact them.

Hi @Jillal did you check the LNB type as described in @Chrisee 's post ?

BTW if you do have to change it to SCR then once you have changed it, power the box off & on again to get it to take effect
