Re: Remote network problem

Same issue.

Re: Remote network problem

Oddly, I'd been thinking recently that I haven't seen this for a number of weeks now, so assumed that some progress had been made.

Anyone else still seeing it?

Andy

Re: Remote network problem

Changing the DNS settings on my router worked for me - haven't had the issue since.

Re: Remote network problem

Thanks. To Google 8.8.8.8?

Re: Remote network problem

Sorry I'm not techy at all. What does changing DNS settings mean?

Re: Remote network problem

@Alex+Cooke - weirdly not, I was using Cloudflares 1.1.1.1 and I thought that may be causing issues.

My ISP is BT but I use my own equipment, changing back to BTs default (googled it) has worked fine since.

I didn't try Google's DNS.

Re: Remote network problem

Sadly, I suspect that's just coincidence. I doubt it's anything to do with DNS settings, it seemed more like some sort of loading issue at Sky's end to me.

Happy to be proven wrong however.

Re: Remote network problem

It might just be my setup but it did sort it for me, I've had no issues downloading since.

Re: Remote network problem

Thanks - worth a try for 2mins work. Will post outcome. FWIW I forced SW update earlier since I first posted and although version hasn't changed, system rebooted and firstbprogramme d/l ok. I've had this before after reboot though so not saying that's fixed it. In bed now, will check in morning.

Re: Remote network problem

Tried changing DNS on Orbi router and also on Archer MR600 4G+ which is connected to Orbi mesh by Ethernet (fixed IP). Also tried changing DNS on Sky Q. Unfortunately nothing worked. I also have EE broadband (fibre to the cabinet 15Mbps only which is why I have the home network connected to 100Mbps 4G+).
connected to EE broadband and no issues at all. Speed of download comparable for HD although I'm sure it'll struggle with UHD.
the EE broadband was being used solely for son's gaming as 4G+ prone to the odd latency flip out sonI kept it. Will bandwidth manage so the Sky box doesn't top out the connection and son should still be ok to shoot baddies.
thanks for trying to help.

Re: Remote network problem

I tried again last night and still experience issues. I am using the Google DNS but I've tried various others. I have tried BT starndard fibre broadband and various assorted routers. I have problems with 4G and various routers. I have the issues via Ethernet and over WiFi when nothing else seems to have problems using the network.

Downloads can fail at the beginning, or middle or very end. Surprisingly, where you might expect adverts to be. I never get issues downloading anything that doesn't have adverts embedded.

Given it's any type of broadband, using a multitude of different router manufacturers hardware, and only seems to fail with Sky and where it appears adverts are... Hmmm.

Re: Remote network problem

The Sky Q downloading a movie killed the latency of the EE broadband and son gaming so I'm back on 4G+ router and with the problem still. Agreed it's advert channels only. Challenge seems to be that Three internet has fixed DNS - even if I select another DNS server in Archer MR600 settings, the connection to three uses a defined couple of servers.  Determined to get to the bottom of this

Re: Remote network problem

Agreed. I have the issue from a mobile broadband perspective using Three, Smarty and Vodafone using 2 different routers if that helps with a little more evidence.

Re: Remote network problem

This workaround is working:

start download and as soon as it says it's available to watch press play. Once it has let me watch beyond adverts and continues to download. Three times it hasn't  - I get to watch the adverts then it just bombs me out to the episode selection screen 🙈

However, if I *THEN* choose resume download - it downloads in full!

have tested this the 3 times and it's worked every time.

the next episode auto downloading in full also without watching any of it immediately.

Re: Remote network problem

Ignore above. Continued testing that approach and had an issue again.  Back to square one *sigh*
