Re: Remote network problem

Maybe this time!

changed APN to 3internet

identified assigned DNS in Archer MR600 Internet settings 217.171.132.0

I then used this DNS in the Sky Q DNS setting under network->advanced settings->manual ->edit

four downloads have worked as they should. Two from one series and two separate series.

Re: Remote network problem

I hope this doesn't jinx it but this seems to be working for me!! I've tried 5 different downloads and they've all worked. So happy!!

Re: Remote network problem

I took the primary DNS from the Internet section in the MR 600 config. Went to sky network config and in Network setup added that to the DNS server. Still fails to download Discovery of Witches for me.

Re: Remote network problem

Rats! All four failed right towards the end of the download. I thought I'd nailed it.

Re: Remote network problem

The same. Some failed early, some got 99% then fail, and a couple succeeded.

Re: Remote network problem

Reading all the posts I don't understand why people are not able to down load programs on the Sky Q box, many of us have no problems at all.

Okay some of us have played with the system because wifi is rubbish on the Sky Q box and the mini will not connect all the time. I don't use wifi for any sky equipment all ethernet via power lines or ethernet cable where I can. Sky Q box connected via ethernet cable to Router TP Archer, Router connected to power line, mini connected to powerline no problems what so ever. All equipment (pc, blu ray, tv, sky etc) fixed IP with 8.8.8.8 on Sky box and mini for DNS. Only had problems with dowloading programs when internet has a problem all other times I can be dowloading a series, watching a channel and recording three channels at the same time.

Re: Remote network problem

We don't understand either.

It isn't isolated to a particular broadband supplier or hardware provider. It's intermittent but fails for me more than it works. It only fails from the Sky box, I never get a failure downloading to mobile devices.

It is only downloading watch now content and only fails when that content has adverts embedded.

Re: Remote network problem

I am trying to replicate your setup.  What ISP are you using for your Archer, Three? Would you mind sharing Archer settings or is it literally vanilla setup?

Re: Remote network problem

It's with Smarty, so effectively Three.

Router settings are Stock now except for the addition of a new profile allowing me to use 3internet instead three.co.uk.

to to try and replicate though.

Re: Remote network problem

@Anonymous

Thank you!

I have now downloaded around 20 shows with only one failure right at the start.

I have my Archer connected to Orbi, but to replicate what you had done, I avoided the Orbi mesh subnet for the Sky Q and used a wired connection into the Archer. I couldn't run Ethernet cable so used a powerline.

APN in Archer set to 3internet.  It didn't work with three.co.uk

Sky Q set to wired connection with fixed IP (manual) with altered DNS at 8.8.8.8

I've long suspected that there's something ever so slightly non-permanent about a 4G connection - ie devices have to establish a 'new' connection each time.  On my old 4G router this made it unusable as it would mean that devices like Sky literally lost internet connection and had to be reconnected. The Archer is way better, but I think this is the challenge that Sky Q had with adm server - the break in download connection to move between ad server and content server breaks the continuity and the reconnection lacks the content server info and so fails. Utterly non-tech answer, but I reckon that's what happening. Wired connection with Sky Q creates a level of permanency for some reason that resolves this.

Meant to thank @john+stalker ☝️☝️☝️

Re: Remote network problem

With the Archer I always use Ethernet connection so I'm not sure that alone is an answer. I also had the dns set on the Sky box to 8.8.8.8 up until a recent change.

But the killer and inconvenient point is that I can see see this issue when Sky is connected to a non-4G router but that is via Wi-fix

I have a power line adapter so I'll try that from the BT broadband router to the sky q box and see how that works later.

Re: Remote network problem

Maddening! I had no issues connected by WiFi to EE Hub (FTTC).

on the Archer - the only thing I haven't told you about is that I blacklisted adm.sky.com - I guess you tried that already?

Re: Remote network problem

Yes I tried blocking adm.Sky.com with no impact.

update though, I put a power line adapter between Asus Zen router, which is the BT broadband and the Sky Q box. I have just managed to download 6 episodes of Disctof Witches which had constantly failed.

So Ethernet rather than Wi-fi but the same broadband has made a difference. I changed nothing else.

I'll monitor this over the next few days.
