2021 or 2022 oled choices.

Is there any techy reason to hold off oled purchase until next year.

Currently viewing 48" Sony.

This could replace 43" 4K non hdr Sony.

thanks

The difference between the JZ1000 and JZ1500 is the JZ1500 has a custom panel with a heatsink attached to the back of the panel, which disapates the heat faster that's produced by the OLED panel, this allows the JZ1500 to attain a higher peak and sustained brightness. The JZ1500 is worth the price jump over the JZ1000 and the LG C1

@Donfor

At this time of year, as you've got this far, it's worth waiting for the New Year sales to get a 2021 OLED bargain. Or wait until Feb/Mar for the new ones.

It all depends how quickly you want to replace your TV.

Re: 2021 or 2022 oled choices.

I've since found my way to reports of dull HDR sports via Sony A9 oled.

This is smilar to t.v. I discussed in curry's recently.

Maybe I should have checked LG's.

The smaller screen is essential, even 50" could potentialy 'seem' too big.

thanks

@DonforReally you need to look at the specifications and if possible look at one working.

I bought a Sony which had all the HDR labels all over the box but in reality it did not have enough brightness (NITS) to show Sky's version of HDR to its best.

Re: 2021 or 2022 oled choices.

I' have a 65" LG OLED C1 that's very good and works well with Sky Q/HDR. I;ve not had the oppertunity to see it with live sports and UHD/HDR as I did not have an HDR box until recently.

For the recorded programs/movies that have HDR, looks good. IMHO, it would be better if Sky went with HDR10. HLG is notall that good for low end TVs or TVs not setup correctly. For example, if you have your TV set to be bright in SDR, then you can easily find HLG to be darkish. HDR10 works better on low end TVs or incorrectly setup TVs.

@Donfor

Check out Panasonic's new line of 48" OLEDs - they have superb image quality & have all flavours of HDR available, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision & HLG. Not the cheapest but they frequently win awards for their image quality.

BTW, domestic TV OLED panels are only cut in certain sizes, so you can't get a 50". The next step up from 48" is 55".

@Donfor @From various information circulating I would at least wait till after October 7th and Sky announcement

Worth noting that as resolution is the same, pixel density is higher on smaller panels.  Personally I'm very tempted to try and hook one of the last of the 2020 LG 48" CX OLEDs which are now around £999 but contain the same components as their much more expensive models.

This Panasonic could be ideal

 TX-48JZ1000B

only minor feature missing is Airplay, only as ap 4k t.v. airplay 2 notification has never been used.

thanks

Not quite sure what you mean. If you have an Apple TV 4K box then the TV doesn't need Airplay. You Airplay direct to the box which then displays the content on the TV via HDMI.

Sky Q remote links fine with my Panasonic. I don't tend to use it much though as I have a Harmony remote & hub for controlling all my AV kit with one remote or app.
