Price increase April 1st 2026

Hello im thinking of switching to Virgin media because of Skys prices going up in April.

I am in a contract until September 2026. Do anyone know if I will be charged early cancellation fees.?

I believe there is a window for leaving sky with no leaving fees but I havent had any notification on skys price rises.

I'm hoping I won't get charged if I leave before April the 1st.

Hi @Shellywills   It would help if you told us which subscriptions you are talking about.

@Shellywills

Sky send the emails / letters out in batches so the call centres aren't swamped with phone calls from customers who have queries. I haven't had my email yet and last year it was the 8th March when it arrived.

Once it arrives it contains a dedicated number to call if you wish to leave. You have 30 days to call after receiving the notification. Leaving penalty free only applies to Sky+, Sky Q, and Broadband/Talk.

Re: Price increase April 1st 2026

Thank you for your reply I have a Sky Q and broadband contract.

Can I still leave Sky even if I don't get the notification email or letter before the 1st April? Without any early leaving fees?

Thanks

Michelle

@Shellywills you cannot give notice until you receive the notification as that tells you what rights you have about cancelling

You should receive you email or letter before April 1 however as you on Sky Q you should be able to cancel with out any termination fee. If you whant to to call Sky before you you receive your.letter why not give it a try. You don't have to tell them you have not received your email  yet, just say " You want to cancel due to the April increase and you understand that you can cancel without any termination fee. You got nothing to lose if you want call them now, and if they if they say you have to wait till you receive email. , so you give them another call back  then.

Hi @Shellywills   I would just check you future bills for reassurance that you will get the increase email, which also tells you how to cancel.

Re: Price increase April 1st 2026

I haven't received mine either.

Apparently on receipt you can choose to leave within 30 days without penalty however you do need to phone up first after receipt of the email and speak with the cancellation team so they can ensure you don't get charged the termination fee.

Re: Price increase April 1st 2026

Hi,

Have you received your notification yet? I would advise that you keep your eye on the "next predicted bills" section and sit tight until you receive it.

I was concerned that I had missed mine as I'd not seen an email, so called Sky - the increase was shown in the next predicted bills. I was told that, as I only joined last July, my price increase wasn't until Novemeber - he seemed surprised. After the call, the price increase had gone and my April, and May bills are all the same as March.

I'm not sure if my call triggered the cancellation of the price increase - I wish I'd rechecked the predicted bills immediately before the call.

Therefore it looks like I am stuck with them for now.

Good luck

@M1ke that depends which Sky services you have. The right to cancel penalty free within 30 days of notice of the April price incrase applies to Sky Talk/Broadband and Sky Q customers, its not applicable to Sky Stream and Sky Glass customers.

Letters are sent out over a period and will tell you exactly what your options are depending on the services you subscribe to.

Re: Price increase April 1st 2026

I have been waiting for my official notification to come through for a while now and after numerous evasive chats with the sky chat team over the past week, I finally gave up and spoke to Customer Services team today.  Apparently my notification was emailed to me back on the 8th Feb (29 days ago), even though I have no record at all of it being received.....Funny that.

They tried the mandatory, did I check my spam folder routine and just wait until it turns up, some customers get their notification before others etc etc.   But its an obvious strategy to get around this gaping hole in their Ts and Cs.

When I asked them to re-send the email, after an age they came back and said that their system would not allow them to re-send it as my email address didn't work.  Which is strange considering I have been receiving emails from them on separate subjects, namely product upsells and these evasive email exchanges all week.  So they will have to put it in the post, which will obviously take me beyond the 30d notification period.  What a coincidence.

I made sure on the call transcript that it was recorded that I did not recognise my notification commencement date until I receive the notification and hopefully that will stand me in good stead when I eventually call them to get out.

Having been a Sky customer for over 27 years, I am really dissapointed to see them take this sly approach.  If they wanted to retain customers they should look at their pricing structures. Their product is good, just not that good anymore considering the competition.

Maybe I will come back one day........then again, maybe I won't

Re: Price increase April 1st 2026

Hi,

How frustrating for you - have you checked your Future predicted bills to check the price is actually going up?

What I find really odd (assuming we are talking Broadband/TV), is that Sky didn't announce the price increase until 18th Feb - I would ask them how they could tell you when they don't know themselves!!!!!

Good luck

Re: Price increase April 1st 2026

Yep my bill says its going up from April, thats what triggered my emails to them.

They acknowledged that my bill was going up and even sent me a long list of benefits I will be getting for such a modest increase......all at the same time as ignoring/refusing my requests for my official notification.   Its a clear tactic.

Interesting point you make about the 18th Feb, I will be sure to mention that to them if they try to push back.

Will post an update once I actually get somewhere.......either way.

Sky admitted that the email was sent  29 which was still in 30 day period, just ! Why on hearing that admission did you go head and cancel their then,  as it on,y takes a minute to receive from when Sky send it,  you could take there 29days of sending it, should also be the date you should have received it and therefore when the clock started ticking.
