Seeing as you ask, Superusers have a private area where we're briefed by Sky on upcoming significant changes.
It's possible that Sky aren't aware that you have a Sky+HD box, hence the message you're seeing. I'd suggest you call and check with them.

Superusers have a direct contact to the teams within Sky!
If you box can recieve Channel 5 HD at this present time then you'll not need to upgrade as your box will be capable of accessing the SD channels after they have changed to DVB-S2

Can you watch Channel 5 HD?If so you have been given misinformation
We have fedback to Sky that their telephone support are dishing out bogus information but it looks like they still need to retrain some staff 😞

Re: furious
@Annie+UK I've just caught up on this thread-you hit the nail with "misinformation"-this is exactly what I experienced with Sky on the phone. They tried to convince me that the problems I was having were to do with my Sky + HD box being incompatible with ITV, etc. As it happens, our on site engineer did find an issue with the dish and will be fixing (hopefully) within the next week or two.

Sky must ve aware of what box I'm using. So why tell me it needs changing then?
When customers buy 2nd hand boxes SKY's records don't always get updated
There is no doubt that SKY would prefer all customers to move off SKY +/HD boxes onto SKY Q (or Stream) and the call centre scripts are all based around this
The shutdown of some SD channels and the move of other SD channels to use a transmission method that the old SD boxes cannot handle has caused many advisers to misunderstand their breifings/notes and often they seem to think that all SKY + boxes won't work after the switch rather than just the SD only boxes and thus give incorrect information

Sky stopped manufacturing HD boxes 9 years ago and don't have stock anymore, which is why Sky want people to convert to Sky Q

If you cannot receive the Free To Air Channels maybe SKY are in breach of their Broadcasting License - Ofcom might be interested in this. It is my belief that one of the conditions for a license to broad cast was to carry the BBC ITV and other Free to Air Channels

Sky are offering the option to move to Sky Q, if people refuse then that's not sky's fault so Sky are not in breach of anything!

Sky do not have any control over BBC, ITV etc, so not a Sky issue nor are they in breach of their own licence as you seem to think. Sky are not responsible for any channels that are not owned/part owened by them, that includes literally 100's of channels on the EPG that do not belong to Sky.
I think your getting confused with inclusion on the EPG which is a different requirement and Sky can only include such channels if they actually exist, do tell us how Sky can suddently put all the lost BBC & ITV SD channels back on a satellite they have no control over?

Sky Group (and the Comcast Corporation) has entire departments of lawyers to check such things: this will have been planned for several years along with the PSB providers themselves.

Re: Sky+ HD boxes are closing down?
Sadly my Sky+Hd box IS impacted by this change.
Have lost bbc, itv and channel 4 channels already.
Sky confirmed my Building's communal infrastructure does not support Q. Our management company looking at options but looks likely my will be forced into Stream or to cancel completely.
