External power for magic eye.
Hi
Setup is sky HD+ box in living room and connection via rf2 and Magic eye to second tv in other room. Magic Eye stopped working, still getting picture ok but no light on magic eye so remote not working.
Have tried plugging it directly into rf2 output on box and that works. Suspect it is the coax cable between rooms. Checked voltage at remote end of cable with multi meter and it's only around 1.5v so while signal gets through ok, the power doesn't. Have reterminated cable both ends with new connections but no difference. Cable runs underneath floor and would be a hassle to change. Is there any way I could power the magic eye at the tv end?
Thanks
Robin.

Re: External power for magic eye.
You can probably do that using a DC power inserter, example here: https://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/DC1.htm
There's advice given in the article, but note you can't buy from this seller.
There's unlikely to be a fault with the cable under the floorboards unless water can get in. More likely it's a poor connection at one end or the other. Ideally use new metal connectors and solder the thick centre wire of the coax cable to the centre pin at both ends.

Re: External power for magic eye.
Hi @Robin63
Ensure the magic eye is plugged into the aerial socket on the back of your TV. Also check that the cable from the back of the Sky box to the magic eye is screwed onto the RF 2 output. If everything is connected properly, check the power for the RF output is switched on in the settings on the Sky box.
- Press the services button on the Sky remote
- Press 0 0 1 Select on the Sky remote in quick succession to bring up Setup menu
- Using the arrow buttons on the Sky remote move across to the RF option
Check that RF outlet power supply is on, if this says off, use the arrow keys on the Sky remote to change it to on. Then save the new settings.
