Hi,
Just got Sky Stream, love the Idea. But so far very dissapointed for £53 a month (Sky Sports included)
I have a 300Mbps connection, full signal in the room on various devices.
However... the Stream has other ideas.
It is extremely slow, moving between channels and is very common that it would say it has technical issues. - When you do eventually get into a channel it never stops. Which to me, says the conenction is fine but the Sky Stream is not.
Anyone else had this?

@GD1 yes, full power off, left for ages. Turned back on. Same result
Also tried a factory reset but same again 😞

I have my Stream box in the living room connected via ethernet and it works without fault. The maximum speed the box can output is 100mbs, so 300mbs well exceeds what you need.
I also have a Stream box upstairs connected via wi-fi and although that can get a little fussy around UHD live events, it is working well. I find it strange how so many people can have so many different experiences with Stream. It probably makes problem solving all the more difficult.
One thing you could try if you have Netflix, is do a speedtest via the app on your Stream box.

Thank you - Netflix speed tests get 90Mbps give or take - which is fine if the box caps out at 100Mbps (assume this is on the ethernet port only and the Wifi can take more?)
My DNS on my router goes through Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 and Google 8.8.8.8 as secondary.
Assume theres no way to manually configure network on the box to a different DNS server
The streams of channels are not stopping at all, the connection is fine. Its more that the box itself is struggling to start the stream, hit and miss. flicking between channels is a pain and barely works.
It is as if it does not have enough processing power or memory. Or its something upstream on Skys end

Just odd,
Look, I expect a few seconds delay because of the way it works. It has to call up Skys servers to get the stream etc - different way that Sat and Terrestrial works.
But, flicking through some channels works. Some dont.- It would be all or nothing, some channels don't even load and just say "Technical Fault" - but there is no error code or anything to even look at - go in again and it might work but no consistency.
To me, it feels like the Device and Sky - I work in IT, so get these kind of issues all day lol

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThere's been some recent issues with 3 internet Vodafone internet and yesterday some users were experiencing issues with OFNL internet
not sure if it's also the cloud fare dns settings but in some cases the 1.1,1.1 dns is used to circumnavigate such issues

I know you've tried ethernet already but when connected to ethernet did you disable the WiFi on the Stream? (network > advanced) for some reason even with ethernet connected they have been known to use WiFi.
If you do try the above turn the WiFi off then connect ethernet and then switch off / on.
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
Yeah noticed that, and gave it a go and turned off so can only use the ethernet cable - same issues
It could be a bad box maybe. When you get into a channel it is ok, but moving between isn't great and the hit and miss of wether you'll get into the channel
Thanks

Do you notice less problems changing channels on ethernet or is it the same?
Thanks,
Tim

A tad better Tim, but negligable difference really
