All it has proved, is that we're not getting a service we're paying for.

I suspect the issue is buffering. Your TV and Apple tv box have a memory to enable them to buffer a small amount of data before playback. The puck doesn't and is a direct link to the servers, so if there is any form of issue with the stream then sync issues occur. Fundamental issue with the Puck I suspect.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

I've had Sky Stream for a few months now and experience some lip sync issues. Many on BBC ONE  live and some free view channels. I find changing channel and then tuning back improves it but it can still be out a little.

I've tried PCM Stereo which has fixed this but should I be using Passthrough? Which gives the best quality as I have a soundbar?

When selecting Passthrough a message came up stating "As you have selected passthrough, you will be unable to hear any system sounds and voice guidance" I'm not sure what this means?

Cheers,

John.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

It means that any sounds which your TV produces like beeps and similar noises when you are in Setttings and you change a configuration item, say in Picture Mode and you change from Standard to Cinema or as you move around Settings from one menu to another, say Picture to Sound.
Passthrough is the correct option if you are using an external speaker /sound system as it effectively switches off TV sound.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Hi all

only think that worked for me was

set to pass through.

connecting the sky puck to the soundbar then hdmi out from soundbar to tv.

Not sure what is best if your soundbar only has one hdmi port.

i did also get a ugreen hdmi cable with latest standards  to go from soundbar to tv which may have helped.

I only have one socket in my SB but I am just interested...... what is the picture like after being passed through the SB? It seems  really odd thing to have to do

There should be no change in the picture.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Thanks for the reply's. I'll keep mine on Passthrough and see how it goes for now. Wonder when Sky are going to fix this bug, then it can go back on auto I guess.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Don't hold your breath on getting Sky to fix this any time soon. The issue began with Sky Q and ARC and has been carried over into Sky Stream. It's been an issue at least since 2016 when I got my first ARC tv.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Ok cheers. So just to confirm you think Passthrough is the better option than PCM stereo if I'm using a soundbar?

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

I get it really bad on Animal Planet but not other channels. It has been doing it since I got Sky Stream on November 7 and is still doing it weeks later. I haven't noticed it on any other channels, not even other Discovery owned channels, it just seems to be the Animal Planet channel. I don't use Dolby Atmos or soundbars so it is set to Stereo and it gets restarted all the time when I unplug it to take it upstairs or downstairs depending on where I'm watching it.

It's actually more in line with how a higher end AV system works. I.e.  Connect all devices to the AV Amp/Receiver which in this case is represented by the Soundbar and then hdmi out to TV/display panel. A daisy chain if you will.

As an aside I've seen some here say their Soundbar only has one hdmi in. To be accurate if it only has one hdmi port that's an hdmi OUT (to tv) not an hdmi IN port. You could say that's me being fussy but actually it's helpful to think of it that way to understand the process for yourself. It also helps confusion for techies as they could think that saying that there is 1 hdmi in to mean that this is in addition to the hdmi out port.
