I have already posted this but I would really like Mike Simmonds, as super user, to answer following with a technical employee...
Thanks Mike+Simmonds, can you or better still a Sky employee explain what is different between standard Sky Cinema (has subtitles) download, a recording from Sky Movie channel (has subtitles), Store Buy and Keep (AT LONG LAST HAS SUBTITLES) and Sky Rentals (bugger all subtitles)

Superusers are just (usually longstanding) customers who try where we can to offer support and suggestion to customers who post on here. We usually have areas we specialise in but we only know what we know.
I am honestly not aware of the reason , (technical, licencing or otherwise) for subtitles being absent for so long on Skystore titles. I certainly agree that their recent partial introduction is long overdue.
We sometimes see Sky employees on here but the forum is not a place where you will be sure of a reply from Sky.
The link below is probably the best way for you to go if you would like to ask them directly.
Hope that helps. Please do post an answer if you get one. Good luck

edit: I forgot to mention, if you would like to tag someone in to a post you write (to increase the chance they see it) - if you type the @ symbol, a list of people who have recently posted in the thread pops up - and you can choose one or more by clicking on their name.

I just bought 'Stargate' on SkyStore (one of my favourie movies). For £5.99 I could have just got a DVD which has subtitles. My purchase does not have a subtitles option 😥 Not only that, the original movie has subtitles when the 'foreign' language is being spoken. There is nothing at all on the SkyStore purchased copy. It's really not good enough

Sky are very gradually adding to the list of movies with subtitles- at least now there is a list of those (link below )
If the movie you have bought is unusable to you - all I can suggest is you try a live chat with the Skystore team to see if they will refund / credit you

It's ableism at its best.

4 years on from this post and still a disgraceful lack of subtitles on sky store! Every single other platform has them on just about everything I've bought or rented but sky seem to be happy to take the money while making no attempt to sort out accessibility for those with disabilities

Hi
Are these films on the list subtitled when you wish to rent a film?

The rental list is different and currently not as comprehensive.
to be sure - you would need to see an "S" in the little menu above the on screen movie description.

And therein lies the problem, I do not want a comprehensive list of what I can keep on my box or buy as I wish to do neither. What I want to do is rent ANY film to watch and have subtitles. There are so many films I would rent but with no subtitles it is lost to me. Sky do not seem to understand the loss they incur by preventing deaf people from being able to do such a simple task as rent a film.

Also noticed that when start watching a series with automatic download of episodes that these regularly don;t have subtitles although the broadcash episode does have.
Perhaps they should be investigated under discrimination law

I don't want to have a small selection of films to watch! Every other platform has either all or very nearly all films subtitled, it's not even very difficult to do if as a company you're willing to spend a little money

This isn't accessible to customers though? I thought the UK was governed by the Disability Act/Equilaty Act etc

Those require 'reasonable adjustment' which is otherwise undefined. If challenged through a legal mechanism, a supplier has to defend their decision. Cost, complexity and number of users are relevant factors.
Ofcom has requirements for the percentage of subtitled content on broadcast platforms, but Sky Store isn't broadcast.

It's 2024 and still no subtitles on purchased movies. Disgraceful.
