There is an easy fix for this and the good news is you will not be charged for it if you didn't start watching it. The fix is to delete the film then delete it again for the deleted section, once you have done this you can then rent the HD version.

You would delete it like you would any other recording or download, so go to your recordings > Manage and do it from here. Then go to Manage > Deleted and delete it from here as well.
