my sky + box is not getting a signal due to large trees. I'm getting sky q anyway but I was told that there's a sky q box that doesn't need a dish only uses the Internet. how do I go about getting this box ?

hi @dan61

It is not SKY Q but SKY Stream - to switch you would need to call  SKY customer services

Hi @dan61

You are talking about Sky Stream not Sky Q

Hi @dan61   It is a completely different product, called Sky Stream (or Glass which includes a TV).

There isn't a Q box that doesn't need a dish. There's an alternative Sky service called Sky Stream which instead uses your broadband to stream programmes. It is very different to Sky Q in that it has no hard drive and you cannot record. Instead you stream live channels or watch what you want to watch on demand.

Please note - Sky Stream requires a fast and stable broadband connection to function.

Not locally, no: there isn't a hard drive in Glass (or Stream pucks)

Playback is a mixture of on-demand streaming and server data retrieval (which may or may not be from 'cloud storage')

It may not be popular by the days of recording are numbered.  Most providers are shifting towards a streaming model were the material can be strictly controlled.

Note that if you already have a reasonable TV set then a Stream puck delivers exactly the same subscription content as a Glass television.  Glass sets are now rather expensive for technology going back to 2021.

Re: sky q that doesnt need a dish

so you don't really have channels then just search for what you want to see?

There's a programme guide and live channels just like Sky+/Sky Q (but less of them) but they are all received via your broadband instead of via a satellite dish.

You can also search for programmes on demand which will play back either from Sky's servers or via a third party app such as iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 or My5.

Instead of recordings you have a playlist. Anything you want to watch later you can add to this playlist and stream it on demand later, depending on streaming rights from the original broadcaster. Sometimes certain things will only be available to watch live and not on demand.
