Sky Q - unexpected reset

My father-in-law (93)  has had Sky Q for a few months and it has been working fine until yesterday. It appears that yesterday evening the box did a total reset - all the recordings, including scheduled and deleted, have gone and the network connection (BT) was lost. Remote needed re-syncing as well. I have successfully reconnected the network and scheduled  some recordings and all seems working. There is no way he could have done a reset of  the box on his own. 

 

Anyone else seen this or can offer an explanation? Software version is Q280.000.08.00L(5vosfts).

BT Fibre 100 (140Mb), Sky TV since 2002. Sky Q 2Tb, Samsung QE50Q60C. 2 x Sky Q mini.
