Hi, will I be able to record football matches which are shown on the new sky sports + channel? Not the main game being shown on Sky football, but one of the matches not being shown on the main channels? I work most Saturdays, so cannot watch the live stream and would like to be able to record the match on my sky q box? Thank you to anyone who knows the answer
Hi @emmanane
Should be able to as it is a Satellite channel.
Thursday 8th

Hi again @emmanane
Just to confirm about Sky Sports plus.
As it will be a Satellite channel (Ch 412) you will be able to record the linear content on that channel.
However if Extra games need the Red button to Access the Sky Sports app then these cannot be recorded.

Thank you replying. If that is the case then I will be cancelling my Sky subscription. I work Saturdays finishing at 2.15pm and then I get to the home game for 3pm. If Sky are now moving lots of my teams home matches to 12.30pm now, firstly I can't go anymore and I now can't watch them either on the subscription I pay for if If it's not on the main channel. Thanks Sky

@emmanane its probable these matches not on the main channel will be available on catch up to download so its not necessary to record to be able to watch.

It's a good question and the big unanswered or unpublisized part of sports plus. Will it include full catch-up?
For example discovery plus for each Olympic event now has watch live or watch from start ( and full catch-up when the event is finished). It will be a pretty damp squib if sky launches a streaming based service without these kind of basics.

One reason I took out the sports subscription was to record the football. If it's not one of the main games but being broadcast it should have at least been recordable.

I have found that catch-up for sports doesn't work as it orally just supplies a short edited highlights rather than the full match.
It remains to be seen if this new channel has full matches available and if it does for how long before they disappear?

I agree, the Sky Sports + app service needs to be as good as the Discovey plus service regards being able to cone into a program from the original start and then the catch-up needscto be available straight wasay. It needs to offer more as it is considerably more expensive.
I subscribe to sky sports to be able to watch matches when they are convenient for me. If that is not available and the service is worse than was previously available then the least we can expect is a lowering of the price.

so we are told there will be more matches to watch, but in reality as you will now not be able to record other games on the red button, our options are reduced, not increased.
Sky
Why can we not record these matches on the red button.
It is how to lose customers.

I understand that sports + is a streaming service, but it seems to be a live streaming service. I selected a RL match that had already started but there isn't a "watch from start" option. If I miss a game will I be able to watch it in full or just highlights? If the latter this is a huge step backwards compared to recording on a normal sports channel and watching it in full after the match has started, either before tha game has finished or at a later time. My team is playing on Sunday and as the game is on sports + it seems I can only watch the game in full if I am at home in front of my TV and this is extremely disappointing. It seems to be taking us back 40 years to before VHS tape recording. Are my comments incorrect or have I missed something?

I have exactly the same issue with rugby league. I am often out when matches are on, so I record them and watch them ASAP afterwards. I was really pleased when, earlier this year, Sky started to show all Superleague matches across three regualar channels (Actiom, Arena and Mix) especially as I could get these without subbscribing to the full Sky sports package. It meant I could record all the matches of interest to me. Then I came to watch a match live on Arena which had been re-branded Sky Sports+ and discovered I had to now pay the full subscription. To make matters worse I found that most of the matches are now live streamed and not recordable. A streamed match from last night (possibly the first one to be streamed) is not yet showing as available in catch-up, so I am not optimistic about this. Unless this changes, there is now no point in me paying for Sky.

I agree 100%.
They seem to think everyone is a football fan and keep kicking the rugby league fraternity in the teeth.
I have rung sky and after I was told I had no special offers for Sky Sports Plus, even though I was watching it, I was told they are working on it.
Working on what I don't know, but we have gone from watching 6 matches to possibly 2 or 4.

Sky claimed this was next level viewing but in reality it's a step backwards. I had my doubts if sky sports + would be anything like the service that discovery plus provides and so it's proven. I'm a big tennis fan and until sky took over the contract I was able to watch all matches in full on demand plus able to watch from start on Amazon prime. The olympics on discovery plus has been great but it's a real shame that sky can't provide a similar service for their inflated subscription prices

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreNot ideal but if the match is still on you can rewind back to the start.
10 Aug 2024 07:10 PM
Yes, not ideal. I tried that, as an experiment last night. Not only could I see the score and the match taking place in reverse, the fastest you could rewind was x30. A painfully slow rate. Sky should be ashamed, once again they have preferenced football over us rugby viewers. Maybe the stats show they can make more money that way. I looked at what was on the other sky sports channels last night when they could have shown the super league matches and they were not football matches but were merely discussions about them.
We rugby league viewers are are truly second rate viewers!
