Re: My replacement SKY Q box crashing and whirring overnight

Sky engineer visit today.

Completed same set up as Dobbo180 - including new V3 1tb box.

They have no more new V3 2tb boxes apparently.

Will let you know how it goes.

How did you book your engineer appointment?

I was given one during an online chat that was end of August (2 months away, and we're on hols) so I tried to change online yesterday but there were no other slots available at all and I so had to cancel.

So, I'm back to square one where this all started with a box that crashes every couple of days.... 😞

Through cancellations - explained issue and was put through to tech support who arranged the engineer visit.

@SJBird

my appt was booked when on the phone to tech support.

It was quite far in advance which i wasn't happy with but i was advised on the phone that i could go on the My Sky app, and you can view the appt in the my orders section. I was advised to regularly check to see if i could reschedule it - as closer slots become available regularly - sure enough i checked the app every day and managed to reschedule through the app to an earlier appt.

2 days on from installation and no issues to report whatsoever.

The 1tb V3 box is also a lot faster and more responsive than the 2tb V2 boxes sky had sent out via DPD previously.

Good news. How is your network setup? Are you using Ethernet or switched to WiFi as others have done?

Re: My replacement SKY Q box crashing and whirring overnight

Ethernet only - mini box as well.

The sky engineer turned off the WiFi in the hidden menu on both the main box and mini box.

Re: My replacement SKY Q box crashing and whirring overnight

Be really interested to see how this goes. I have all 4 mini boxes on Ethernet and main box on WiFi. The box is one of those sent out as a replacement via DPD

No daily box resets since

Re: My replacement SKY Q box crashing and whirring overnight

So, I finally received a new 1TB Sky Q box today and have just set it up. Only problem is it doesn't have any of the apps - no Iplayer, Netflix, nothing!

Any ideas..?

@SJBird you could try refreshing the apps in the engineers menu

To enter the engineers menu do the follow
press the home button then scroll down to setting and hi-light
do not press select/enter but press 001 then select this takes you into the engineers menu

scroll down to apps > refresh

It can take up to. 24 hours but it will s usually less

Re: My replacement SKY Q box crashing and whirring overnight

I got the box changed to a 1TB version and the issue stopped immediately.

It's all down to the 2TB box which is unstable.

I have a 2TB box which does not have this issue so it's not that simple.

I also had one which did.

I have this one connected to a 100Mb switch over ethernet (I have tried a 1Gb connection in the past) and I do wonder if there is a link there but can't remember if the box that had this issue was at the same time.

Re: My replacement SKY Q box crashing and whirring overnight

I've discovered a diffent thread saying it's related to EE router which looking at the time I was migrated from BT to EE actually sounds more plausible 🤔

Re: My replacement SKY Q box crashing and whirring overnight

Hi all

I have been actively involved in the other thread and can maybe help but have no permanent solution.

i have a Sky Q 2tb with 4 minis. All connected to an unmanaged switch using originally BT fibre broadband. Worked flawlessly and I loved it for around 3 years. Moved to EE which is still BT at there recommendation as it was cheaper for the sane speed.

As soon as I swapped router to EE smart router WiFi 6. The Sky Q box would brick usually overnight but often randomly during the day. I have tried many different configurations and all that works for me is all 5 boxes on WiFi. They still need resetting randomly every week or so.

I have had 5 boxes and no joy. Both EE and Sky don't acknowledge the issue. They try to treat you as if it's the first time it's happened to anyone.

I have given notice and leave Sky after 22 years next month
