hi I've just taken delivery of an OLED 48 inch screen Samsung all the programs are absolutely fine filling the screen to the edge.
However when I use go to the apps i.e. Netflix , iPlayer etc the programs have a black bar on the top and the bottom I don't really want to change the screen size on my new TV because that will affect the rest of the programs I'm sure please advise

As @PandJ2020 says what are you watching.
I have just tried a few different programmes/films in Netflix on my SKY Q box, Firestick & TV apps - they all work the same for me
Some do have black bars top & bottom as they were shot in a different ratio (noticable on THe new film The Six Tripple Eight) whereas the TV Series CSI (series 10 #1) that I checked fills the screen.
A lot of content is not shot in 16:9 ratio which the TV is
BTW We do recommend using the TVs own apps as these usually have Dolby Vision (not sure about Samsung) & are optimsed for the TV (also if you have a Surround System capable of Atmos this)

Re: 48inch OLED SAMSUNG TV - apps are not fooling the screen
@anita+db Are you refering to apps on the TV or your Sky Q box?
It should also be noted that depending on content on a given app the screen resolution may likely be correct and is shown as intended

What are you watching? As 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 (etc.) programmes will have black bars.

Re: 48inch OLED SAMSUNG TV - apps are not fooling the screen
Thanks just checked both of your suggested programs and yes match yours stated - again tried the same 2 on TV apps and same as Sky Q - how annoying a brand new TV does this - thank you anyway

hi @anita+db
It all depends on the the content shot
Many Older TVs will stretch , Squeeze or Crop the picture so that you always filled the screen
Modern 4K Tvs will not do this but instead add black bars either Top & bottom (or Left & Right for older 4:3 content)
By adding the black bars you are seeing the picture in the screen ratio that the makers intended
it may seem a bit strange if you are not used to it.
I have always preferred to see content in the ratio it was shot in

Re: 48inch OLED SAMSUNG TV - apps are not fooling the screen
Your TV may have the option to 'zoom'. It will fill the screen by chopping bits off.

Although I think many TVs don't have this option when the source is 4K/2160p -
My Panasonic doesn't allow Aspect to be changed with such inputs
