There is no hdmi on the soundbar.
I have connected a audio digital cable into my samsung tv to my soundbar.
It works but the sky remote doesnt control the volume...annoying

I think they need to talk to Sky to get included in the built-in IR profiles.

Without an HDMI input you won't be able to directly control the soundbar volume. That is not a Sky issue, it's the failure of the soundbar design

I have been controlling my Majority soundbar's volume with my Sky Q remote for the past 1 1/2 years quite successfully.Up until 2 days ago when I changed TVs.The s/bar is connected via Toslink (fibre optic) cable. So it IS possible to connect without using HDMI.I just dont know what code I used to do it back then.

Just for the record, after a bit of perseverance I now can control my Majority K2 soundbar volume using my Sky Q remote via Toslink. Using one of the Magnavox settings on the menu,I'm not sure which, all is well. So,all the experts who say it is not possible are wrong.WRONG.It is possible.Just a bit of patience is all thats needed.

That is wrong information. It is possible using a Toslink connection.I've done it.@Invisblename

No you haven't.
You've found a code that sends a compatible IR signal. The TOSlink protocol does not have volume information.

Yeah.In other words I'm controlling the soundbar volume using my Sky Q remote, which, without using techtalk of any kind,is what I wanted to do.

Sure, I'm happy for you. Not sure what the pop at 'experts' was about.
But it's nothing to do with TOSlink. The remote is sending a signal direct to the soundbar. Which, of course, if you find a compatible code then it will work.

OK going by what 'invisiblename' wrote (Without an HDMI input you won't be able to directly control the soundbar volume.) I took that to mean what it said.Maybe I misconstrued what they said but I found that to be untrue,I can directly control the soundbar volume......without HDMI.

"Without an HDMI input you won't be able to directly control the soundbar volume. That is not a Sky issue, it's the failure of the soundbar design"
Which if you have the correct infra red remote code then you can directly control the sound volume on the sound bar with the Q remote

...which was in addition to my post #2. (Stating that a native IR code may not be available - these send a signal directly to the soundbar)
The IR function is primarily for a TV*. Then the TV can send a volume request to a soundbar/amp via HDMI CEC - this cannot be done over TOSlink (which was the point made).
*some other devices are listed/work
