Re: Majority soundbar

My point exactly.I dont get all the abbreviations and techspeak but all I know is that I CAN control the soundbar volume using the Sky Q remote.I'd be interested to know of any advantages in using HDMI tho'. My soundbar has a HDMI socket.

HDMI can handle higher fidelity audio than optical (not from a Sky box though as it doesn't generate that) and it can send commands between devices but if you've got IR working, that isn't much of a distinction (though you probably can't turn it on and off via IR). It also means one less cable usually.

Re: Majority soundbar

Thanx Chodley.I think I'll leave well enough alone.I can control the soundbar volume which is all I wanted in the first place.I'll just ask this..Would connecting the soundbar to the TV using HDMI instead of optical serve any noticeable improvement,do you think?Thanx.

Probably not - IF;

1. You use streaming apps a lot (with Dolby Atmos support)

2. It's an eARC port

3. The soundbar supports high fidelity audio

4. The soundbar does a really good job (they clearly can't do what full multi-channel speaker systems do)

then maybe there could be a small improvement but honestly I'd be surprised if you'd notice.

Re: Majority soundbar

Hi everyone. As written above by a user, I tried to use the settings of a Magnavox Bowfell soundbar to configure the remote control of my SKY Q mini, but none of the proposed models work. So I tried contacting Majority customer service and this was their response.

Unfortunately, it's not currently possible for us to add "Majority" to a list of officially supported brands on your universal remote index. We're working on it, but this process does take quite some time.

The only infrared code that your particular soundbar uses is: 01FE (Zero, One, F, E)

If your universal remote allows the set-up of a specific code manually, then you should be able to program it accordingly using the above-mentioned code. If you're having trouble, it might be worth checking with the manufacturer of the universal remote itself.

Unfortunately, Sky q doesn't allow me to manually enter the code, but only asks me to specify the brand and model of the soundbar. Do you have any advice on how to enter the code 01FE?
Thank you

@Fliz This is a painful suggestion but the only thing I can think of - remotecentral.com has libraries of IR codes for diff manufacturers. Can't recall if they are human readable or just in binary files for importing into the pronto / logitech software. But maybe there's another soundbar/amp out there which uses the same code for toggling power on/off which is in the sky database and you could choose that one instead.

why wouldn't the soundbar have a volune control by the way - do they just control that via the TV / HDMI-CEC?

Re: Majority soundbar

@Chodley

If a soundbar has HDMI, volume control is possible by the TV and so with the Sky remote control if the TV is in the "Sky list", but the Bowfell is good, small and cheap so you have to use the optical cable because it lacks HDMI.

Bowfell soundbar has its own remote control to turn it on and adjust the volume, but I think having the Sky remote control, the one for the smart TV  and the one for the soundbar is a bit too much, considering that with the old (not smart) television I only had 1 (the one from Sky)...

In any case I was advised to solve the problem by purchasing a Sky remote control which is capable of cloning the IR signal of other remote controls (URC1635 Sky Q)

I ordered it and it arrives next week. Finger crossed.

Good luck

I don't know how it's supposed to do power and volume with a single IR code but anyway, hopefully the cloning will work. Has done for me before (on a different universal remote)

Re: Majority soundbar

Remote control arrived and tested. I had to argue a bit with the buttons because it is not possible to turn on the TV and soundbar with the same button (they are mutually exclusive): to turn it on I finally assigned the "mute" button to the soundbar. If I want to change it I basically turn it off. At least I've eliminated the remote control for the bar.

Re: Majority soundbar

I have the Majority K2 sound bar wired to my tv with the optical cable.

I've managed to get my sky q remote to work the volume on my soundbar using one of the Bauhn settings. Not sure which one but that's how I've got it to work for me.
