Lost TV Channels following Switch to SkyQ

I had my Sky+ box exchanged for SkyQ a few days ago, since when I no longer receive a signal to a dozen or so TV channels that I received with Sky+ continuously over the previous 8 years. These include Ch 103 ITV1 HD, Ch 105 CH5 HD, Ch 135 E4, Ch 203 ITV1 +1, Ch 313 Film4, Ch 411 TNT Sports 2, Ch 421 TNT Sports 4, Ch 503 BBC News HD, Ch 504 BBC Parliament HD and a few others.

I would have expected to be able to access all the same channels that I was previously receiving but the SKY TV engineer who replaced the box advised that, if I experienced any issues with lost signal, it would be a matter for my provider (See the Light).

Has anyone experienced similar issues who can advise, please?

Re: Lost TV Channels following Switch to SkyQ

The OFNL engineer attended this morning. Tried various things without success but then replaced my 8-year old Quad GTU with the latest model, reset the settings on my TV set and that seems to have solved the problem. Now getting a signal to all of the 16 channels I lost after the SkyQ box was installed. Fingers crossed.

hi @Swindonviewer

Do you have your own dish or are you fed by a communal system ?

Communal. Wired into house (not dish).

Does that indicate you are on one of the very rare fibre-satellite (IRS) television installations?

hi @Swindonviewer  which is why the Engineer said you would need to refer to your provider.

SKy Q is slightly more sensitive to signal strength than SKY HD

Out of interest, did the engineer test all the transponders and  find issues at that point of installation ?

Re: Lost TV Channels following Switch to SkyQ

Hi nigea99, yes, he tested and said that I wasn't receiving a signal to a number of channels (before installing SkyQ). The majority were foreign language, children's TV channels etc that I would never want to view, so hadn't missed them and don't want to watch them now. I agreed to proceed with the switch to SkyQ on the basis that I wouldn't lose any of the channels I was currently receiving.

I spoke to See the Light today but his remote tests didn't solve the problem. Their engineer is coming tomorrow. Is there a way I can get a list of the Channels I should be able to receive for my package?

Although not a 1-1 match probably the easiest list I can point you at is the SKY Glass/Stream list - most of those listed as not available for Glass/Stream should be available to you I think also

Which presumably does indicate it's an IRS setup, because otherwise broadcast channel loss is not a network issue.

Fibre IRS is satellite television, though, so channels should be as on Q.  The point is the dish doesn't have to be local.

Yes - I don't, personally, have a suitable link to a channel list via Satellite hence my  note & use of the Glass / Stream link

In theory you should 'receive' every channel in the EPG which doesn't require either a Sky subscription add-on (Sport/Cinema) or a subscription directly from an external provider (TNT etc).

I'd caution that there's very limited experience in this forum with STL set-ups though.

Re: Lost TV Channels following Switch to SkyQ

Thanks Timmy, I have the Sky Signature package (8 years plus) and Sky Sports, with TNT Sports via BT.

I'll see what the See the Light engineer has to say tomorow.

Just a though: is the Q box plugged straight into a 'satellite' cable or to a wall port with multiple connections (such as radio and/or terrestrial television)?

Re: Lost TV Channels following Switch to SkyQ

It's connected to the wall socket marked "SAT 2". The "SAT 1" port has nothing connected to it.

Re: Lost TV Channels following Switch to SkyQ

Sorry, I should have added that the socket also has a "FM/DAB" port (which has nothing plugged into it) and another aerial socket, which has my VCR plugged into it.
