Re: Failed remote network problem
It seems like you can't type
IP Address
because it includes the word Address and for some reason thats not allowed
hmm, strange world
Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address, Address

Re: Failed remote network problem
Ok so I can't send you something @Craigv9 so if you want to do this we'll have to do it the slow painful way
you get a pi v3, they are cheap, plug it in (to set it up it'll need a usb keyboard, network connection and hdmi out to a screen) and I'll tell you what to do on here from that point.

Re: Failed remote network problem
that's hilarious - seems like the best way to get Sky's attention is to use Address in a post
*now I have your attention*
Sky - please sort out your effective blocking off smaller/newer ISPs that cause the remote network error that means we can't download Sky Q programs. Lit Fibre in my case
otherwise advise you tech support team of the incompatibility to stop a lot of frustration and let people cancel their contract without penalty.
Acting against new ISP entrants is anti competitive - you are aware of the issue and I recommend people contact the regulators unless resolved quickly.

Re: Failed remote network problem
To be fair, for me to send a configured pi to Craigv9 he would have to give me his actual physical address so I understand the forum's privacy concern and rules. I should have thought of that. This is what happens when you have bright ideas at 0530.
Totally agree this should be getting more proactive attention especially with the additional context/info Mark has provided.

Re: Failed remote network problem
Seems my earlier posts magically re-appeared
The thing for me is yes I have "resolved" the issue I encountered, however in doing so, I have removed the redundancy of the network, if Limelight fails I have nothing.
It would be so much better if Sky spoke with Akamai and asked them to change the Geolocation or anti-spam or whatever blocks which are in place.
This page clearly shows my ISP and the subnets they use, therefore there is no excuse for Akamai/SKY to block my IP

Re: Failed remote network problem
trying it at home today - I only get the limelight address no matter how many times I try.
87.248.205.0
which seems to also be skypdluk.s.llnwi.net
llnwi.net is limelight (now Edgio)

Re: Failed remote network problem
Ok. I have a pi 3b here....have sent you a message so we can do this away from the forum
It seems Sky are absolutely determined that no solutions or help should be posted on their forums

Re: Failed remote network problem
Nawi,
You've hit the nail on the head
Any attempt to resolve this issue by helpful posters is being blocked at every turn
It's quite incredible and the regulator will not be impressed...

Re: Failed remote network problem
Hey,
I'd rather be in your position than mine!
(Removed)
I'd watch 1984 for relevance, but I can't download it....

Re: Failed remote network problem
I think the position i am in is intolerable
I had a 2TB SKY HD+ box that I owned, I could download and keep recordings (when it worked half the time!) and I had that box for maybe 8 years, with loads of saved recordings. and following a switch in Sept that I really didnt want to do, I now have a 2TB SKY Q box which is noisy (I've read it is the Hard Drive which is making this noise 24/7) why they can't stick SSDs in these things is beyond me.
A smart designer would implement a device with 3 SSD cards running Raid 5, so if a "disk" failed it would cause no outage, you could replace a faulty drive as a hot swap and it would just rebuild on the fly, with no lost programs.
Also this SKY Q box is not mine, with recordings that disappear, adverts during downloaded programming that I never used to get. A box that stops recording a program when it thinks it is finished, missing the end. (with the old SKY HD box I had it set to record 5 mins extra at start and end, so very rarely did i miss the start/end.)
Summary: I'm very dissapointed with SKY and SKY Q
I now have a no ads Netflix subscription as well as Amazon Prime (with Ads) subs and I find myself watching SKY less and less.

Re: Failed remote network problem
and what you are seeing is why sometimes a users issue is resolved by changing their DNS setting in the sky box, but as we have seen, round robin kicks in at random times, and so that user could break at any time

Re: Failed remote network problem
Well, I can't even leave with grace.
My post stating I've wasted enough time battling Sky was deleted very quickly after being posted...
Roll on the end of my notice so I can escape this utter utter indifference and incompetence...
