Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
The sky employee who marked it answered but didn't answer anything. Only asked for more info. This is lazy target hitting if you ask me. Boss sees an answer mark and he's all good. Disgraceful.
I've definitely fixed this on my system. By setting the digital output that I'm NOT using to Normal and the one I AM using to Dolby Digital. This is with the 500Gb Sky Q box with a Yamaha RX-A3030. Before I did this it was constant dropouts on every channel.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
Thanks for this. I have gone back to optical set to Dolby, and set the HDMI output to Normal. I'll see how i go.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
Yup, definitely getting worse. The drop -outs are becoming noticeable even with the output to 'normal'. Still not as bad but until recently I could barely hear them.
I just tried setting Optical back to 'Dolby' while leaving HDMI (which I'm not using) at 'Normal' and thought it was completely fixed. But I was wrong it's still terrible. So I'm setting both to 'Normal'.
One benefit of running this way is that you don't have to adjust the volume when switching between SD and HD channels.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
- I have sound drop outs on discovery channel they are happening very frequently approximately every 2or 3 minutes
@AndrueCope wrote:I've been experiencing audio drop-outs when playing back recordings from Discovery HD. The drop outs last a fraction of a second and the frequency is random. They appear to be somewhat programme specific (Gold Rush:White Water is a particular problem). It's definitely only affecting recordings made on Discovery HD. No other channels. I never watch anything live.
I've contacted Discovery Channel direct three times now but never received a response. Could someone here attempt to escalate this?
Thanks.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
So far, the last configuration with normal set on the output NOT in use, this seems to be working.
Also, I had both optical and HDMI connections to my sound bar. I have now unplugged the HDMI to see if that helps. If I get further problems, I'll reverse the connections and settings.

I have been experiencing the same for months and it's still happening when replaying recordings on skyq. The sound is played through Bose on the Dolby digital setting

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
Sky q hooked up to onkyo via hdmi. Hdmi from onkyo to Samsung TV.
Same exact issue. It's driving me absolutely nuts. It's the only channel I actually record things from, to watch.
What is the actual point having sky.
Oh and I don't see why anyone should downgrade to normal sound in this day and age to avoid sound drop outs. That's an absolute joke that I've give to expect from sky.
I'm hooked into a contract for a while yet but I'll be cancelling when I no doubt get my mid contract increase letter.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
I thought I had this issue sorted, (see my earlier posts in this thread) then the Sky Q box decided it couldn't see the wired connection to the sky router anymore (for no reason, and not the first time), and after restarting the router the network connection came back and Sky Q audio started dropping out again on all channels and recordings!
Reset didn't help. No Audio setting changes help.
Such a frustrating issue that is clearly rooted in a problem that isn't connected to an actual audio setting.
Having said all of that, while typing this frustrated rant, I remembered that the reset will have turned on the WiFi that I had to turn off previously for some other stability issue, so I went to turn both of the WiFi bands off in the service menu, and now it sounds like the issue has been fixed! So some weird network issue in the Q box seems to cause audio dropouts even though I'm using a dish for the tv and recordings obviously don't need to use the network.
These boxes are absolutely rubbish, and definitely not worth what we're paying! It's time to move on to full streaming without sky I think!

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
Although I've all but given up on a fix by now I just had to pop on tonight to complain about Deadliest Catch on Discovery HD tonight (23rd October, 21:00). Even though I have long had Dolby Digital disabled tonight's episode was still bad. Multiple drop outs, several times a minute pretty much throughout the entire show.
Frankly I think Sky and Discovery should be ashamed that this still isn't resolved. And at the risk of attracting the ire of the forum moderators I'm going to say that I don't believe it's a lack of technical ability on their part. That beggars the mind after all this time and given how much information we as customers have provided them. I think they both know full well what the problem is and it is probably hardware related and they can't fix it without replacing a large number of boxes. I think they've decided it's cheaper to just pretend ignorance and accept a few lost subscriptions.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
There is definitely a fault but I don't think it's related to the boxes. There is nothing different about the audio format used on Discovery, it's exactly the same as every other HD channel, so there is no reason for it to cause any problem for Sky Q boxes.

Re: Audio drop-outs on Discovery Channel
This issue has returned for me yesterday after a gap of several months. Wartching Discovery live or a recording is impossible but catchup seems ok.
