Are you sure it isn't saying "not registered on network" ?

Try turning off your phone and removing the sim the gently wiping it before inserting it back in the phone and turning it back on.

I've done that twice now and still says the same thing. Do you think if I get a replacement sim card it might work or is it more likely a problem with the phone itself.
