Hi all,
Same boat as the users above - Sky Go app installs fine but won't load. 'Bounces' once in the dock then disappears.
Running Sonoma 14.5.
Not good enough to be quite honest...

Are you on Apple silicon ie M1, M2 or M3? If so you'll need Rosetta. See my previos post if this is the case...

No, definitely not on silicon (mid-2014 iMac). Sky Go has historically been before before I updated MacOS.

It's not just about having Rosetta. I have apple silicon M2 and I have Rosetta. My Sky Go doesnt work because SIP is disabled and I need it disabled so that lots of my music plugins work.
I dont want to re-enable SIP and it seems like Sky have just started insisting it's enabled. This means I will never be able to use Sky Go again and will not perceive as much value in what I get from a Sky TV monthly subscription anymore.

For anyone wondering what SIP is.......
You know that Apps you get from the Apple app store are safe to download and virus free because Aple checks all apps in the store and doesn't allow anything dodgy.
SIP is Apple's way of also checking (verifying) everything you install on your Mac that doesn't come from the app store and if it can't verify it, it stops it from running. It came about with latest systems where security is on the motherboard and processor and especially sensitive now that everything has things like payment cards stored with your fingerprint and face id to pay. They don't want malicious software being able to overcome some of those security features.

@jlololthis was exactly the situation I had, and to be honest have had multiple times over the years. Normally after a few weeks an update sorted it. The ONLY thing that worked this time was enabling SIP. It's not a problem for me and it's probably better enabled (I only had 1 program that needs it disabled and didn't use it very often). The proces to enable / disable it is quick and simple so it doesn't really cause an issue. It is irritating however and took a long time to find the solution. It also cost me £50 as I got an extra sky mini box in the interim to put in the garage where I used skygo!

And bingo... I can also confirm it's the disabling of SIP that causes the issue.
I've been using Opencore Patcher to enable me to continue to update my MacOS versions, which in turn disables certain elements of SIP. Having dug out my old defunct MacBook and loaded SkyGo on it, it works fine.
There's the issue Sky peeps... implement a fix! 😉

You're right about SIP. However, Apple gives you the choice to enable or disable SIP for a reason. It's a personal choice and most people would understand this. We can't assume that all apps downloaded from outside the app store have security issues, and we are still able to download and install these apps. If the only issue causing the Sky App to not work is due to disabling SIP, then this would be the first and only app not working with disabled SIP. Even all native Apple apps work without SIP.

It's interesting to note that the Sky app is not listed on the Mac desktop app store. Therefore, you will need to download it directly from the Sky website instead.

You can imagine why Sky want SIP enabled though, unless someone mistakenly ticked the box to require it in this release?
We know Sky Go has always been sensitive about working if you have Dual Monitors as Dual Monitors would appear exactly the same way as 1 monitor + 1 Streaming device would appear which could be broadcasting what you're watching. Sometimes even with 1 monitor, it has refused to work (maybe in error).
Maybe there's some software that will never be verified by SIP (because it's dodgy) that enables you to stream what you're watching. Sky would want to stop that, so the only tool they have is to insist on SIP being enabled so that they know you don't have that software installed.

My SIP is and always has been enabled and the Sky Go app is not working for me.
17 Jul 2024 03:16 PM
You don't see how that's essentially criminalizing everyone for the sake of stopping the fraction of a percent of users who might do something nefarious? Its *my* computer, I have SIP turned off for my particular, valid reasons. Why shouldnt I be able to use the software I pay a huge amount each month for the privilege of? Needs a fix, ASAP
17 Jul 2024 03:17 PM
@trentacles Sorry, not sure why it's not working for you. For me (and maybe a few others) it is SIP as enabling it makes Sky Go work again until you disable it again.
17 Jul 2024 03:21 PM
@jlolol I agree. Being able to watch on my laptop in my office where I don't have a Sky Mini box is an important thing to me + watching on my laptop when travelling for work. I am seriously thinking about cancelling the £65 a month I am paying for a basic TV package + extra for HD and UHD (honestly, who charges for that anymore) and 2 miniboxes

Just to confirm, I enabled SIP on all 3 iMacs and a MacBook Pro at work, but the SkyGo app is still not working on any of them.
