I have spoken to Sky today and have been advised to contact Apple!  I have a brand new Macbook Air M2 running Sonoma 14.5, the app downloads but doesnt install after running the installer..  Very frustrating but seemingly Sky are not admitting anything yet.....

I have just managed to successfully install the app!!  

I had to install Rosetta first though and you cant simple download that from the App Store.  Here's what I did:

a) Right click on the Safari app within the Application folder and selected 'Get Info'

b) Check the 'Open using Rosetta' check box

c) Open Safari, at which point I'm prompted to install Rosetta

d) Install Sky Go making sure I've deleted all the remnants from previos attempts

e) Bingo!  It works.

 

The Macbook Air M2 doesnt come with Rosetta pre-installed but Apple advise that if it is needed the app will ask for it.  Unfortunately in the case of the Sky Go app it seems to look for Rosetta and if it doesnt see it already installed it aborts the install without any error messages!   So in my view its an app issue rather than Apple's problem.  The Sky developers need to design the app so it prompts for Rosetta rather than aborting the install without any clues.

PS:  As a precaution I've unchecked the requirement for Rossetta when Safari is launched.

Ah,

 

I confirm that's what happened with me as well with my Air m1. I couldn't install it few days ago but managed to yesterday. In between those times I had installed Rosetta for something else. Didn't know that's what sorted it (assumed Sky had updated it) so thanks to the previous poster.

I have an Intel Mac so this is going to be a problem as Rosetta is only available for Apple Silicon (M1, M2 etc.) how are we supposed to resolve this?

Thanks! It Works for me and my MiniMac whit MacOs 12.7.5
I don't know why SIP was disable on my computer.. ususally seems it be enable by default...
Anyway sky had always works, since last upgrade in June.. whit SIP disable.. mah..
Nobody at Sky in my country told (knows) me how resolve the problem!

Yes, this sounds like a different problem.  I also have an older Intel Macbook which still has a problem n it!

Thanks for continuing to keep this thread going with on going discussions and potential solution steps. 

 

I can see that some advice given on the thread has been helpful for users however there are still some advising that issues are still on going despite trying other user advice. 

 

There is also a few different terms being used and I want to be 100% clear on the issue users are seeing.

 

That being said, I'd like anyone who is still experiencing issues with Sky Go to do a complete fresh install following the previously advised steps which were:

 

Uninstall the app 

Launch the Finder, go to the Downloads folder and delete ‘SkyGoInstaller.’ 

In Finder, go to the Applications folder and delete Sky Go app 

Remove Sky Go files 

In the Finder select Go to folder ... from the Go menu (or press c). 

A dialog box should appear. Now copy and paste the following text into the box and press the return key: ~/Library/Application Support/ 

Select the Sky Go folder and delete it 

Empty Recycling Bin 

Reboot the Mac

Download and reinstall Sky Go

 

Once you complete the installer, and only if you are still having issues, tell me all of the following:

 

Is the app installed and won't launch?

Did the installer fail to install the app entirely? 

 

Please also outline the software you are currently on for your Mac.

 

Finally let me know in full what other steps you have used to try and resolve that, be that from information on this thread from other users or found elsewhere.

->> Yes, the app is installed fully and closes the installation window.


Did the installer fail to install the app entirely?
->> No, it does not give me any indication of the app not installing the app properly.


Please also outline the software you are currently on for your Mac.
->> I have 3 iMacs, and one MacBook Pro. They all are Intel-based Macs. They all use Sonoma 14.5 and one iMac uses Sonoma 14.6. The beta software gives me a crash report but I can not post it here for some reason.


Finally let me know in full what other steps you have used to try and resolve that, be that from information on this thread from other users or found elsewhere.
->> See the below list of steps I have done so far.


- Uninstall the app 
- Deleted Sky Go ‘SkyGoInstaller’ from the Downloads folder  
- Deleted Sky Go app  from the Applications folder
- Removed Sky Go files 
- Deleted Sky Go folder from ~/Library/Application Support/ 
- Empty Recycling Bin 
- Reboot the Mac
- I deleted every single file related to skyGo even the hidden files and cleanly reinstalled it.
- Restart the Mac, and reset NVRAM and PRAM
- Download and reinstall Sky Go

 

As soon as it opened the first time the app just bounces once in the dock and doesn't open.


I checked my SIP status in Terminal, it showed me the result below. (I can not enable the SIP fully because OCLP patcher uses this). Tried enabling SIP but the SkyGo still does not work.


Configuration:
Apple Internal: disabled
Kext Signing: disabled
Filesystem Protections: disabled
Debugging Restrictions: enabled
DTrace Restrictions: enabled
NVRAM Protections: enabled
BaseSystem Verification: enabled

Once you complete the installer, and only if you are still having issues, tell me all of the following:

 

Is the app installed and won't launch? The app installs and crashes straight after the login details appear before I get the chance to enter my username and password.

 

Did the installer fail to install the app entirely? No, the installer appears to install the app in its entirity. 

 

I am using MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) 

2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

 

I have followed all the steps on this e.g. uninstall the app etc, cleared caches etc.

Yes, the app is installed in the 'Users/myusername/Applications/' folder, as happens with every Sky Go update. It's definitely a fresh install - it's the only app in that folder (Sky Go is the only app that insists on installing itself there rather than in the system-wide 'Applications/' folder), and it was previously deleted as part of the suggested remedy instructions.  Viewing the extended info for it within Finder indicates that it is v24.1.3-2. As I reported before, attempting to open it makes it bounce once in the Dock before quitting silently without any crash report.

Please also outline the software you are currently on for your Mac.

Intel-based Mac, Ventura 13.6.4

 

Finally let me know in full what other steps you have used to try and resolve that, be that from information on this thread from other users or found elsewhere.

Ribadisco  che unico modo al momento e le ho provate  tutte, installare os nuovo e con diversi mac sia intel che silicon ,e' avere un backup di time machine prima del famoso 20/5/2024 , poi spegnere internet lanciare skygo , aspettare che lui cerchi la connessione internet e fermarsi senza che si apra  nessuna finestra di richiesta internet altrimenti ci sono residui di vecchi file e lui capisce che deve fare download del nuovo software , ed allora fornite internet e skygo magicamente vede canali e se siete a casa vede vs sky-q , io al momento sono in vacanza in spagna e tutto funziona a meraviglia su un m2 , unico riguardo spegnere sempre connessione internet se lanciate skygo altrimenti avrete il problema che riscontrano tutti , alternativa paraller/window11-10/skygo per win  e funziona a meraviglia , saluti da minorca

Hi Daniel

 

I have followed the steps you outline numerous times, with the same result - the download completes, the Skygo icon appears in the dock, bounces, the black dot appears for a second, then the icon and black dot disappear.

 

I have a Macbook pro 2017 running Ventura 13.6.7, i5

 

I'd really appreciate your help
