Bitdefender detecting Malware and blocks Sky Go on PC

Im a bit confused as to whats going on but when I went to open Sky Go on my desktop PC tonight, Bitdefender went a bit crazy and no matter what I tried, there is no way it will let me open it.

I use Sky Go numerous times every day and never had an issue till now.

I have included screen grabs to show whats going on and was wondering if anyone else that uses Bitdefender Total Security has had the same problem.

Thanks

PJ

Morning all,

Thanks to this thread, we managed to liaise with Bitdefender who updated their software and it should now be identifying Sky Go correctly. If you're still having issues please update your Bitdefender software 🙂

Perhaps it is worth uninstalling it then downloading a fresh copy from the Sky website so see it it will then open.

Uninstall the Sky Go app and then go to 'C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming (ensure hidden files/folders are visible) and delete the following folders:

Sky
Sky Go

And if it is present (it might not be) the Cisco and/or Synamedia folder in App\Data\LocalLow.
Empty your recycle bin.

Reboot your PC and then download and install the Sky Go app again via here:

My bitfender is doing exactly the same thing today, with my Sky app. So weird! I reinstalled the sky app.. And bit defender automatically deletes the app, after it downloads, sayings it's unsafe!

My Bitdefender is also detecting malware in the latest update.

It's far from unknown for AV products to occasionally misidentify legitimate software components as hostile ones: typically the vendor fixes this in the next signature update.

The apps team are the people to inform about this - apps@sky.uk

Quite possibly, but when all such reports are from the same AV provider and no other such product is mentioned, that's a clue.

Yeah thats the evidence that highly likley means its an issue on the BitDefender end and they are incorrectly detecting Sky Go as a virus. If there was some bigger issue with Sky Go we would be seeing reports of lots more anti virus software detecting it.

Re: Bitdefender detecting Malware and blocks Sky Go on PC

I've got the same issue.

A trojan is detected when I try to install SkyGo.

I've tried to talk with italian chat support and they told me that I've a virus on my pc and that I don't have to talk to them, I've to clean my pc and then install SkyGo. (Really? I think they didn't even understand what I was saying).

So I've send an email to uk app's support asking why Bitdefender is detecting a trojan inside the installer and they just replied "Turn off your antivirus, install skygo and then turn is on again".

Doesn't seem safe at all.

Re: Bitdefender detecting Malware and blocks Sky Go on PC

I'm in the same situation except that the BD people in chat asked me for a syslog of my PC to send... Boh...
I recently upgraded my PC to Windows 11, could this have anything to do with it?

Re: Bitdefender detecting Malware and blocks Sky Go on PC

I have windows 10 on my laptop and windows 11 on my desktop computer both with BD. I've got the same issue on both.

A friend of mine had a previous version of sky go on his laptop with BD and this morning he tried to update and it didn't work. Now the app doesn't work anymore.

skygo issue

I am not able to open skygo as my Bitdefender flags a trojan.

Is anyone able to help?
