Re: Problems setting up sky email on apps

You may be right but what's peculiar about this issue is that for me at least I have Outlook working fine on my PC with Sky/Yahoo email (albeit 2 stage authentication password needed) but the Outlook App on the phone won't work with Sky email on the mobile. Note it only bombs out when the Outlook App takes you to the Yahoo server and after entering Username it bombs I.e.wont let you enter a password. This appears to be a Sky/Yahoo issue rather than Outlook but I'm only a simple User !

Re: Problems setting up sky email on apps

I agree - I have sky email running fine with Outlook on my Windows 11 PC / Office 365 Outlook.  I only set that up on a new PC on 2nd Jan using that app password thing online.  It's in Outlook for Android on my Google Pixel 6 (which worked fine until Jan 1st) where you just don't even get to the page that gives you the opportunity to enter any kind of password.

Is it an issue for Microsoft / Outlook for Android or Sky/Yahoo.  I see lots of scope for each party to say 'not me gov!'.  As I say, Sky Tech Support told me yesterday they don't intend to support anything other than the Yahoo Mail app.  For me, that's not good enough.

Sky had only ever intended the email to be used via a browser. They added support for apps/clients after many complaints at the beginning, but it is up to us to make it work.

As long as you can access your email on a browser, they will consider their job done.

They no longer provide email addresses, along with other ISPs now, so the email is very much a legacy product.

The problems with authenticating with the Yahoo servers when adding the account is recent, and I have not worked out why it's happening, but you can still add your Sky account, you will just need to add it as "not Yahoo" when it auto detects and use a generated password.

You will need the following servers:

imap.tools.sky.com port 993 SSL

smtp.tools.sky.com port 465 SSL.

Good luck.

Re: Problems setting up sky email on apps

@jayach THANK YOU!  That simple step of selecting 'not yahoo' at the top of the username did the trick!  I entered all the details you gave me yesterday and copied the app / online generated into both the IMAP and STMP Ioutgoiung and incoming?) lines on the manual setup screen for Outlook for Android.  It all appears to be working now and is populating with my email histroy etc.

THANKS AGAIN.  The question is, why, after hours of tech support with Sky, they didn't say...."select 'Not yahoo and......." 😞

As I said it's a legacy product and the agents appear to no longer be trained to support it.

If you're lucky you may get an "old hand" who still knows what to do, but most haven't a clue.

  • Hi. I have a button at the top of the screen 'Not Yahoo' but that only seems to bring up 3 options.....1) Change Account Provider 2) contact support or 3)collect diagnostics. Of I select change account provider I get a page as per picture. I feel I still need help! Screenshot_20230105_141941_Outlook.jpg

Quite so. The days when it was an expectation that an ISP would provide an email service are long gone, and a good job too.

In any event, @Carl297 if you're reliant on email service for business purposes it's probably best to pay for a proper business oriented email provider who will have defined service levels for dealing with issues (quite apart from the fact thay it's a breach of contract to use Sky Yahoo Mail for any business purpose).

Re: Problems setting up sky email on apps

@Mark39   I have microsoft exchange accounts for my business emails with registered business domains.  BUT why shouldn't I be able to view my private emails in a serious email client like Outlook, alongside my work emails, rather than rely on a noddy app like Yahoo?

Re: Problems setting up sky email on apps

@Jpw1960 select the IMAP envelope icon at the bottom of the screen and take it from there.
