It has to be a generated password, and it has to be generated from the correct Sky account, so have you more than one account, and are you copy/pasting the password from the generator?

And, are you using the full sky email address as the username?

Yes and Yes!

Still not entirely clear. One question at a time.

Do you have more than one Sky account?

Are you able to log in here, with the account you are trying to add to Outlook?

https://skyid.sky.com/signin/email

When you genetrate the password for that account are you using the copy function on the generator page?

Do you then paste that into the password field in the Outlook setup?

Because you have more than one account, generating the password for the wrong account would seem to be the most likely reason it is failing..

I would also recommend using a different browser to your usual one to generate the password as cookies can sometimes confuse the process.

So, go to the generator page: https://www.sky.com/sky-yahoo-mail/manage-apps

When you get to this page make sure the correct account is shown:

Then when you get to:

Use the copy function on the page and paste the password into Outlook when asked.

It may be a good idea to restart adding the account to Outlook from scratch, just in case something is being remembered from a previous install.

Re: Add sky email to outlook issues

Thank you jayach.  I have tried all of this before, to no avail.  So, on your recommendation I went through a different browser to access the password.  But it still does not work.  I fear that it is something to do with Yahoo, who took over Sky email some time ago.  There doesn't appear to be any way of getting help from Yahoo, I can't find a user forum.

But thanks to you for trying.

I can't believe that no one else has had this problem and managed to solve it somehow.

Thats's the thing, lots ofpeople have had what appears to be the same problem, but have always been able to solve it.

It isn't Yahoo's taking over that causes it, (that was in 2013) it's that they introduced OAuth authentication more recently.. Unfortunately as Office Outlook isn't OAuth compatible with Yahoo it needs the generated password.

Why your generated password doesn't seem to be accepted I don't know, but Outlook will definately work with Sky email.

I assume you are using Outlook on Windows and not Mac.

@Audi80TDI

As you have more than one Sky account, assuming they both have email addresses, have you tried adding the other one to Outlook?

Re: Add sky email to outlook issues

Sorry if I have confused you, no, I only have one Sky email account.  I have a gmail account which is still on Outlook 2016, and no problems.

O.K. if you just have the one Sky address you are unlikely to be generating the wrong password.

As this started after you apparently deleted the address from Outlook I'm wondering if something of the original account is causing problems. To ensure the account is completely removed try this:

Open control panel on Windows and go to Mail.

Select setup email accounts and directories

And see if there is a Sky email account present

If there is you could remove it and try the setup again using the generated password.

Or you could try selecting change and pasting in a generated password into the password field.

Yours will be an IMAP account whereas I use POP, but apart from that everything should be the same.

If neither of those things work, I really can't think of anything else. But don't forget it HAS to be a generated password, nothing else will work.

Re: Add sky email to outlook issues

Hi Jayach

the only email showing is my gmail account in the control panel.  If I press change it shows my gmail account in User information, the server information as gmail and my sky email in log on information.  The password is not visible, ie. starred out.  I am reluctant to change anything as I don't want to lose my gmail account as well!!

I think I've hit a brick wall, but thanks to you for trying.  I am not confident enough to change too much.  Guess I'll have to see if I can get some local help more hands on.

At least that proves that the Sky account was fully removed from Outlook, so adding it again  should not be affected by the previous install..

I asked previously, but can you definitely access your Sky email account here?

https://skyid.sky.com/signin/email

If you can there should be no reason you can't add it to Outlook.

Hope you can find some local help, I'd love to have a go myself, I hate an unsolved problem, but I doubt you are in my part of S.E. Essex. 🤣
