Which 3rd party router to work with Sky Fibre fttc

Been having issues with my internet dropping out, the last Openreach engineer said they've now done all they can do and said replacing the router is the only option left. The Sky router is ok but not the best, we do some gaming and streaming and was thinking of buying a better router anyway. I've been reading up on the Asus routers, lots of recommendations for them. I was wondering if they're plug n play or do I need to configure it?

@Bobbiecool to connect to any FTTC service you need a DSL modem and a router. Asus produce a range of combined modem routers which should be able to be configured to connect to your Sky Superfast service but AFAIK they dont come with a preset. 

However there is no evidence that third party routers provide better speeds or greater reliability than Sky's hubs but they do provide extra services like QOS. You can use a standalone Asus router behind a Sky hub in a Double NAT set up which can work as well for most purposes.

Was looking at the AC82U, users state it's practically a plug n play unit that replaces the Sky hub, most comment it has solved stability issues they've experienced with the Sky hub. As Openreach have stated they have done everything possible to solve my issue the router is the only option left for me. If it doesn't work I can just send it back.
