Hi guys, how did you guys get FTTP setup with an Asus router? Did all you guys install Asus Merlin?
I was gifted a AX92u dual mesh pack which currently doesn't have an Asus Merlin port (and probably never).
Tried enabling IPv6 and setting WAN with the "Automatic" option, but Asus complains about a DHCP error. Tried changing it to PPoE with the @Anonymous username/password - but no option for Option61 (client ID values).
I currently have my AX92u configured in Wireless AP mode with WiFi disabled on my S203 Sky Hub - not ideal, as I feel the Asus AX92u as a router will be far superior with AiProtection and generally better with a more powerful CPU etc (as well as WiFi6!).

Hi @dkhan91
Have a look at my post here
I had the same issue as you (DHCP error) but I've now got it set up and running perfectly with my AX92U on factory firmware (screenshots of config in the linked post)
The wireless performance alone is far better than default Sky router so it was well worth the pain of configuring it.

Whoops, I misread @dkhan91 I'm using an 82u not 92u but the WAN config should still be the same 👍

Thanks for the reply @nabd.
But that option "Client-Identifier (option 61)" is only available on AsusWrt-Merlin FW - not on stock AsusWRT FW.
Stock Asus FW has the following options.

Re-uploaded Sotock AsusWRT FW WAN Option - no option 61.

Posted by a Sky employeeIf you enable DHCPv6 PD, you shouldn't need to worry about providing the DHCPv4 Option 61 Client-ID anymore.
(I believe all of Openreach's FTTP OLTs support Lightweight DHCPv6 Relay Agent (LDRA) these days, so we can authenticate DHCPv6 natively. Their FTTC footprint still has some legacy DSLAMs that don't. Customers on those devices will still need to provide DHCPv4 Option 61.)

That's what I gathered, and I have enabled Native IPv6, interface PPP, DHCP-PD enabled.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to pickup an IPv6 address and keeps complaining about "Your ISP's DHCP does not function correctly".

Ah... my apologies, maybe the AX92 doesn't support it then, somewhat disappointing given it's supposed to be a superior model to mine 😞

@-rpnz- Mine wouldn't work with just DHCP-PD enable. It only started working after I added a valid value for Client-identifier (option 61)

All ASUS routers have the same AsusWRT FW, same interface and usually the same features (hardware differences aside)- all of which does not have an Option61 setting.
AsusWRT-Merlin - is a custom fork of AsusWRT, which has the setting for Option61.
Are you running AsusWRT-Merlin FW?

Posted by a Sky employee@dkhan91 our FTTx products don't use PPP, they're just native DHCPv4 and DHCPv6. (also referred to as "IPoE" in fixed-line broadband terms)
Can you post a screenshot of your configuration showing the DHCPv6 settings? Apologies if your previously attached screenshots already show it, we'll have to wait for a forum moderator to approve them.

Posted by a Sky employee@nabd that's interesting, perhaps I'm mistaken and there are still some older FTTP OLTs that don't support the required feature.
Did DHCPv6 PD come up straight away as well, after you included the DHCPv4 Client-ID?
(Also just to note if you're swapping multiple routers in and out, it can take up to 5mins for the old session to timeout on Sky's end, and for a new router to be allowed to connect.)

@dkhan91 Unless it was installed by Amazon prior to shipping to me then I'm definitely running stock firmware.
Other than the WAN settings I've not changed anything else with the router yet.

Honestly not sure. I was just happy to see it connected after 2 days of trying (and glad of having the OH off my back)

Hi,
I've read a bunch of mixed information - some saying the need for option 61 and some saying IPv6 DHCP is enough, and one other post mentioning VLAN ID 101.
As I am having DHCP issues with IPv4 despite IPv6 enabled - I believe I may fall under the "legacy" bracket of users.
Looking at the below link - Asus Routers have an option for VLAN on their WAN connections. I've read some conflicting posts referencing VLAN ID 101?
https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1034366/
@-rpnz- is VLAN ID 101 on WAN going to help me with this issue?

tagged VLAN 101 is only a requirement on VDSL2 (FTTC) interfaces.
For FTTP, the WAN interface between your CPE router and the ONT should be untagged.
(Sadly. I wish it were the same as FTTC, but that's not how Openreach have designed their product. 😞 )
