IPs have wrong geolocation ROI

I am based in Dublin, Ireland.

After a power outage for 1 and a half hour, my router received new WAN IP, which is unfortunately taken as an IP based on Scotland (wishaw). Apparently some blocks have been transferred from there to Dublin. But the geolocation of these IPs are still inaccurate.

The result is, I cannot access to some streaming services or geolocation specific services. (such as Now)

Restarting my router or getting new IP does not help as the new IP seems to be always coming from the same CIDR block.

My router is getting IPs currently in 59.199.2.xxx block.

In my random testing with https://www.iplocation.net/ip-lookup , Geolocation providers have wrong information for these ranges as of today.

59.199.0.0 - 59.199.63.255  (not all may have been from Wishaw to Dublin)

Many providers have correct information. These providers have old geoinformation apparently.

ipinfo.io

ipregistry.co

criminalip.io

Of course this could be an issue on the providers but the range is too big, so I guess my router has no hope to get an IP with correct geolocation for the time beging. The impact on the service is huge.

Anyone knows when the information will be corrected or sky team making action on this?

@jwr11  How long are you leaving the router off to get a new IP?

If someone has helped give them Like.

If you have found this solution helpful please tick this as the answer.

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation

Between 1 hour and several hours. I could also use "Disconnect" and "Connect" feature to acquire new IP.

But even when I get a new IP, that did not help as the new IP also came from the same CIDR. It seems the IP blocks are so new and unused. The next IP I get is just based round-robin apparently rather than random allocation.

i.e. if my current IP was 51.199.1.200, and I disconnect and reconnect, I got 51.199.1.201  If I wait for several hours, I get 51.199.1.252 and eventually I started to get 51.199.2.0 and so on.

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation

Did you ever get this sorted? I'm having the same issue now, can't use a few services like NowTV until I get it sorted, google maps doesn't have a clue where I am either.

Re: Geo location servers - issues with incorrect IP location

I am having an issue since joining Sky Broadband in that while I live in Ireland, my IP address seems to be registering as the UK on some websites. This means I am blocked from viewing certain content as I am out of the region. Hoping for a resolution to this. Sky are sending me out a new modem but maybe this can be resolved if my IP address is relocated to Ireland?

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation

I seem to have hit this problem as of this month (September). I am currently a Sky broadband customer in Ireland.

I can no longer access NowTV nor local radio stations via TuneIn.

NowTV is reporting error code ovp_00012 (roaming outside EU not allowed).

When I checked the IPV4 address allocated to my router 2 days ago, it was giving me values in the range  51.186.8.* (the * number altered as I disconnected and reconnected to the ISP service but same results).

I disconnected (via diagnostics menu) my router this morning and got allocated the IPV4 51.186.11.*

Checking this IPV4 value via https://iplocation.io/ ...

I am seeing 2 services (IP2Location, IpInfo) locate this IP in IE, while 2 services (Criminal IP,  DB-IP) report this IP as located in UK !

@Chloe-W22 (hope you don't mind me tagging you here as I note that you are aware of this issue from other posts, i.e. https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Glass-Live/Geo-location-servers-issues-with-incorrect-IP-location/t...)

My guess is that I need the IP allocated to my router to be back in the range that used to work for me before September ? Can anyone help or advise please ?

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation

In my case, the issue was gone after a few days. The only actions I repeated was to stop the router and start again after a few hours - expecting some luck. But I doubt it was my action that had fixed the issue. Rather all the geo db services had been been finally updated.

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation

Thanks for updating, so my IP range is showing as Dublin across the board, but obviously some services are I guess working with outdated info - hopeful it will sort itself shortly.

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation

I am having exactly the same issue, in that i am in the wrong Geo Location for streaming. (Also based in Dublin). I am a new Sky BB customer, installed on Saturday. I had left the router off from Saturday 5pm until around 4pm yesterday, based on another thread i saw. Still no fix. Can anyone direct me on how to disconnect and reconnect, there doesnt seem to be any options for this is my sky settings. Thanks

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation

If you access your router admin UI via a browser http://192.168.0.1

Login is admin and the password should be on a sticker on your router.

Go to the Maintenance menu, Router Status tab.

At the very bottom of the page there should be a Connection status link. Click this.

Should see an option to Connect/Disconnect. This will turn your DSL connection on/off and should supply your router with a new IP address when it reconnects.

The new IP address will likely be within a similar range to the current IP you already have which will probably still be recognised as a UK IP.

Give it a try anyway. Nothing to lose.

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation ROI

Chloe...I checked my broadband this morning...

Noted that TuneIn is now working for local radio stations so it is recognising the Geo as Ireland.

NowTV however still thinks the Geo is UK and won't allow access to view anything.

The router IP address had not changed so I disconnected the DSL and reconnected (via Admin UI) to gain a new router IP, but the IP stayed the same ? 🤔

Anyway, since the router IP has not changed (even after a disconnect), I can only assume that whatever method TuneIn uses to check Geo has been updated while NowTV has not.

A quick check of the IPV4 address on https://www.iplocation.net/ip-lookup shows 3/8 Geo Location services still show the IP address as being in the UK, while 5/8 show Ireland.

I'm not sure exactly what solution was applied, so I can't comment other than show the results I received.

Will see what others come back with after they also check 😕

Re: IPs have wrong geolocation ROI

I'm having the same issue. Also checked Now TV this morning and there was no change. Still getting the message saying that I'm outside the EU.
