Re: Do need to tell Sky Iv purchased a new hub
Hi has anyone tried a VOIP phone plugged directly into a white sky router that wasnt supplied directly to the user by Sky. I've heard that for the phone to work over Fibre the SR213 router needs to be linked to the sky account in some way and presumably one ontained from elsewhere wouldnt work, for the phone anyway.
Welcome any experiences.
Thanks

@Kenny+J A VOIP phone is not going to work on any sky phone service connection no matter which sky hub you have, that is down to your VOIP service provider giving you all the correct information and connecting to THERE voip box which in turn if it does work will be via the Ethernet connection off the sky hub.

Re: Do need to tell Sky Iv purchased a new hub
Hi thanks for your comments, i may have misled here. Its not an actual VOIP phone its the normal panasonic base phone we had plugged into the normal BT phone socket before the fibre conversion. We now have to plug it directly into the Sky Hub to make it work as we no longer have a standard BT phone socket, just the ONT which runs to the WAN input on the router.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks

@Kenny+J Yes normal phones plug into the back off the SR213 hub, and as long as sky are providing a DV phone connection then that is how it is delivered. Are you finding that it is not working?

Re: Do need to tell Sky Iv purchased a new hub
Hi, thanks
the phone is working fine on my SR203 hub, but im wondering if whether it will still work on a SR213 hub if i bought one from elsewhere, that didnt come direct from Sky and hence not linked to my account (not sure if they even are linked).
I've tried asking sky for one, ive offered to purchse the Wifi Max feature but they wont send me a new hub, even though i've got gigafast fibre as theyre saying whilst my SR203 is meeting the minium guarenteed speeds i dont need one, yet i know the newer hub would give me more stable wifi as all my devices are wifi 6.
They have actually sent me a new SR203 (which isnt what i was asking for)
Dont want to buy a second hand SR213 if the phones wont work though, as no other way to connect the housephone.
From what you say though JimM1, may be worth trying it.
Thanks

Re: Do need to tell Sky Iv purchased a new hub
@Kenny+J Would not go and purchase a Sky Max hub from anywhere else, you are basically getting a piece of stolen property, highly unlikely it will work and sky will not want anything to do with it, the serial number of your current SR203 will be linked to your account.

And people mentioning buying stolen propety mabye sky should crack down on the people selling these on ebay , how are we to know that the equipment is loaned out.
Sky should offer the sky max out for Gigafast customers , the black router is outdated and dont handle these speeds very well.

Re: Do need to tell Sky Iv purchased a new hub
@cjenkz22 It's all loaned out, from sky to be returned at the end or the cancellation off the contract. Gigafast over wireless yes the old hub does not get up there, then again the Max is just that little bit better if you want to be near it! The sky Max is the most user friendly hub that there is, put it on and you can hardly do any adjustment, it's a sky dream!
Also using sky Max on a non sky max setup account wise, then the hub is about as much use as a lead balloon! Buyers beware it will not work! And same with the Extender pods, not from sky direct then NO good except as paper weights!

Re: Do need to tell Sky Iv purchased a new hub
@cjenkz22 Sky do try and get ebay to take down listings as they appear but as most are private sales it is effectively impossible. This has been an issue with Q tv boxes for years. However Sky have not sold or "given" a hub away for many years so all are loaned and charged for if not returned (the charge does not transfer ownership) but people still think they can make a cheap buck. The older black hubs will connect but the newer white hubs need to be matched to an account to be fully operational which Sky do when dispatching them to the orginal customer.
As you have found services like the voice line won't work and you cannot connect one of the extender pods making the unit of limited worth.
